After a long development process New Regency’s adaptation of “The Revenant” seems to be closer to production. “We’re the Millers” star Will Poulter is in negotiations to co-star with Leonardo DiCaprio in the revenge thriller.
The "The Revenant is set in 1823 in the areas of North America that now make up North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska. It centers on 36-year-old Hugh Glass, a real-life figure, who joins the Rocky Mountain Fur Co on a journey into the wild. After being mauled by a bear, he is left at the mercy of two would-be rescuers who later steal his belongings and abandon him when their camp is attacked by Native American raiders. Glass must then travel the 350-mile journey back to civilivation through perilous territory.
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is on board to direct with a planned fall production start date being eyed, and aiming for a 2015 release date.
Mark L. Smith and Inarritu penned the script.
Poulter may have made an impression on Fox execs who saw his talents in the upcoming adaptation of “Maze Runner,” which is already starting to gain a lot of heat.
He recently finished production on the indie “Glassland” opposite Toni Collette.
