Bow Wow Changes His Name

He dropped the “Lil” in 2002, now he’s dropping his stage name altogether. Bow Wow, 27, posted a video on his Instagram page on June 22 announcing that he wants to be called by his birth name, Shad Moss. Bow Wow said that after the BET Awards on June 29, he only wants to be called Shad. Watch the video below and let us know what you think of his name change!

Bow Wow explained on the caption of the Instagram video, “ANNOUNCEMENT: After BET awards i will no longer go by Bow Wow! Im going by my real name “Shad Moss” we made alot of history as bow wow. Now its time for the next chapter and challenge. Bow wow does not fit who i am today. Ima father, business man, TV host, Actor, and rapper! Time for MR Moss to take over!”

Bow Wow changed his stage name once before. When he was 22, he dropped the “Lil” from his name to go from Lil Bow Wow to just Bow Wow. More grown up, you know? Now we guess he’s really an adult!

Bow Wow originally got the nickname “Lil Bow Wow” from Snoop Dogg – who also, ironically, changed his name well into his career to Snoop Lion.

Going by his real name is a bold move considering people are more familiar with the name Bow Wow than they are with Shad Moss. Maybe Bow Wow wants to be seen as more mature now that he’s the host of BET’s music video show 106 & Park?
