A first look at "The Judge"

Howdy folks. I'm still a newbie at this stuff, so kindly bear with... Just wrapped the Avengers: Age of Ultron gig, figured it was the right time to give you an advance look at a trailer for The Judge, coming out in October.

Susan and I are delighted that this wound up being the first movie produced through our Team Downey production company at Warner Bros. It’s a drama with lots of heart and wit.... might be the best thing I've been part of yet...beginner’s luck, perhaps.

An original story from our director, David Dobkin, it’s a modern tale of conflict, judgment, death, regret, irony, family dysfunction, hilarity, and of course, unconditional love. When a miserable hotshot Chicago lawyer returns home to a small town in Indiana for his mother’s funeral, he is forced to deal with a lifetime at odds with his legendarily stoic superior court justice father (aka The Judge).

What could possibly go wrong? Shame and secrets, old flames and...murder perhaps?

Again, thanks for your patronage; I'll keep trying to make things interesting.

It... sure is a movie.
skyler_white_yo 20th-Jun-2014 11:06 am (UTC)
MTE. The trailer seems like one of those mock trailers that spoof Oscar bait.

Hopefully it's just a blech trailer and the movie is better.
halfdressedliar 20th-Jun-2014 03:22 am (UTC)
All I got out of this is that he's done on Age of Ultron.
letitrainblue 20th-Jun-2014 03:24 am (UTC)
yeah, and it was fast too
halfdressedliar 20th-Jun-2014 03:25 am (UTC)
Right? It was maybe two months?
letitrainblue 20th-Jun-2014 03:26 am (UTC)
a lot of cgi on the iron fella i suppose
sarahvma 20th-Jun-2014 03:24 am (UTC)
And that it's impossible to read anything RDJ writes without hearing his voice.
josiefier 20th-Jun-2014 04:01 am (UTC)
Lol true
blackwidow 20th-Jun-2014 03:27 am (UTC)
which could be a good thing or a bad thing. I mean, it could be good because that means we will get more character screen time for others, but it could be bad because this might mean that Marvel is weening us off Iron Man.
halfdressedliar 20th-Jun-2014 03:30 am (UTC)
It's probably both.
amber_protocol 20th-Jun-2014 03:34 am (UTC)
Well once the suit's on fully they don't even need him so maybe a lot of his scenes are in it?
letitrainblue 20th-Jun-2014 03:48 am (UTC)
they don't need him when iron man is on screen. they just did the tony stark shots and that was that. plus, they are definitely trying to give us less iron man
yunaresuka 20th-Jun-2014 03:24 am (UTC)
I wanted to be an extra in this so bad but NooOooOoOoOooo
crimps4 20th-Jun-2014 03:27 am (UTC)
...a son representing his father? I haven't taken my required personal responsibility/ethics class in law school yet but, um...I'm pretty sure that's not OK.
firefox1490 20th-Jun-2014 03:45 am (UTC)
Honest question but why not?

I'd get if if his dad was the judge on a case or vis versa(?) but what would be the conflict of him representing his dad?

crimps4 20th-Jun-2014 03:47 am (UTC)
I dunno, haven't taken the class yet! ;) Maybe not an ethics problem, but lots of emotional entanglement that could be a bad idea?
meadowphoenix 20th-Jun-2014 04:29 am (UTC)
There's is literally no ethics issue with this. In fact, you're allowed to represent close family in cases with law you aren't even familiar with, which usually is not okay.

lokiyan 20th-Jun-2014 05:51 am (UTC)
There's no conflict of interest so it's not really an ethics issue. I mean, people are allowed to represent themselves, so it makes sense that family members/friends can represent their loved ones.
arnaudian 20th-Jun-2014 03:28 am (UTC)
vera farmiga looks so much like kristen wiig
blackwidow 20th-Jun-2014 03:30 am (UTC)
Well shit, this looks like it's going to be amazing. Also, possible oscar bait.
teamdowney 20th-Jun-2014 04:47 am (UTC)
Same. I'm glad I'm not the only one really impressed with it.
_crow_chick_ 20th-Jun-2014 03:34 am (UTC)
You had me at RDJ.

You sweetened the deal with my love Vera.
fasdsr2 20th-Jun-2014 03:40 am (UTC)
Bahh, was hoping to catch Leighton in a scene.
revertigo 20th-Jun-2014 04:02 am (UTC)
teenssssy tiny part, but it's a fun one
thethingiswhat 20th-Jun-2014 03:40 am (UTC)
This looks really good. Hell even if it didn't I'd still be there for the midnight showing because RDJ. Wonder if he'll get any noms for this, it looks potentially bait-y.
josiefier 20th-Jun-2014 03:56 am (UTC)
I am here for this.
midnight_lite 20th-Jun-2014 03:59 am (UTC)
RDJ and Robert Duvall? Vera Farmiga? Strained family relationships? I am here for this.
revertigo 20th-Jun-2014 04:01 am (UTC)
yayyy it looks really good. idkw i was worried lol
lettace 20th-Jun-2014 04:07 am (UTC)
unless there's some kind of twist, this is kind of predictable. rdj doesn't seem to have a good eye for things
yurasama_love 20th-Jun-2014 04:25 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'll watch it.
Probably not in theaters.
riskthefall 20th-Jun-2014 04:43 am (UTC)
I feel you.
teamdowney 20th-Jun-2014 04:47 am (UTC)
YESS! Thank you RDJESUS. Praise his light! This looks good and as always TEAM DOWNEY, BITCHES.
starchain 20th-Jun-2014 05:05 am (UTC)
If it wasn't for RDJ, I'd have no interest in this.
I feel like I've seen it ten times already.
letitrainblue 20th-Jun-2014 05:15 am (UTC)
egalitarianmuse 20th-Jun-2014 07:54 am (UTC)
I will see it for RDJ. I would sit through War & Peace in theaters for him.
winonaforever 20th-Jun-2014 10:27 am (UTC)
It looks dull. But i'll watch for Leighton and Vera.

Can't wait to see RDJ and Robert Duvall playing off one another!
argeneau 20th-Jun-2014 12:22 pm (UTC)
Always here for RDJ, & especially for a more srs film. It's funny seeing how few comments a non-IM/Avengers RDJ post gets compared to a post relating to Marvel RDJ - guess Tony Stark has more fans than Robert, lol :p

I like the cycling scene where he's wearing a Metallica t-shirt though, it's like Tony is making a cameo.

The younger me with a schoolgirl crush on him in the 80s/early 90s wants to see him do a romcom again. Still enjoy watching Chances Are, Only You etc.
tessselate 20th-Jun-2014 01:09 pm (UTC)
i read the script for this in my screenwriting class
it was okay
i dont fucking know

unrulybadger 20th-Jun-2014 01:46 pm (UTC)
I'm into this! The cast is fantastic.
luna_potterhead 20th-Jun-2014 02:42 pm (UTC)
My asshole of a roommate worked on this movie... I don't want to see it out of spite but I do love Vera, hmmm...
tx5mym5 20th-Jun-2014 04:13 pm (UTC)
Looks very Alexander Payne...I don't like his movies. Great cast, so it's in the maybe territory of waiting for reviews.
shiiblee 20th-Jun-2014 06:44 pm (UTC)
RDJ is awesome and he probably kills it in this movie, but it looks lame as hell.
de_throned 20th-Jun-2014 07:52 pm (UTC)
it looks okay and RDJ makes everything good, but I'm not interested :\
