Kristen Wiig: LA terrified me, I'm writing a new script!

Kristen Wiig was afraid of LA when she first moved to the city. The American actress has fast become one of the top names in comedy thanks to her work on Saturday Night Live and movies such as Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

Before finding her comedy feet Kristen was studying for an art degree in Arizona, but she dropped out once she caught the acting bug.

"When I first moved, there was 'the dream', as there is for a lot of people. Then I got really scared. I moved there and I was like, 'Oh, I don't have any experience,' and I was surrounded by people a lot younger than I am, a lot better looking than I am, who've been acting for a while, who've been taking classes, who already have agents and I just felt like, 'Oh, there's a lot of work I have to do,'" she recounted to the British edition of Glamour magazine.

It didn't take long for people to notice her talents, which include writing as well as acting. While Kristen, 40, co-wrote the script for the hugely successful Bridesmaids with the help of Annie Mumolo, she often doubts her abilities when it comes to penning comedic moments.

"I think writing is probably where I have the least confidence. When I write with Annie, it's fun and we laugh. Of course, it's hard to figure the story and stuff, but once that's done and you're going through it, figuring out the dialogue and adding the jokes and stuff, that's more fun," she explained.

Fans will be over the moon to hear that the writing partners are back together working on a new project, though Kirsten remained coy on the details.

"My priority now is to finish the script that Annie and I are working on. I was writing some stuff by myself - it was a little dramatic and I stopped because it didn't feel like where I was any more.

"I started a different one that I'm really excited about, but Annie and I are writing together again. It's going to be really different, actually I mean it's still our voice, but it's going to be a much different story, even probably a different tone, than the one we wrote before," she teased.

Is that supposed to be a joke? Either way fuck off, how about because of Bridesmaids, the film she actually wrote instead of a piece of shit sequel.
jonghyunf 8th-Jun-2014 09:34 pm (UTC)
they mentioned bridesmaids later on.
littlehayzay 8th-Jun-2014 09:35 pm (UTC)
Yeah I know that but saying that she's known as a comedy star b/c of movies like Anchorman 2, please.
ophiodeiros 8th-Jun-2014 09:41 pm (UTC)
"such movies as" - it's given as an example, why not use anchorman and snl if bridesmaids is going to be talked about next?
littlehayzay 8th-Jun-2014 09:44 pm (UTC)
because she didn't become the top comedy actress because of a supporting role in a shit movie, it'd be nice to see the movie she wrote and was the star of credited, because anchorman 2 is not at the top of anybody's list. it's just annoying like yeah they mention it later but if you're going to say why she's the best, it'd be nice to have it be HER movie vs some random movie she was in
ophiodeiros 8th-Jun-2014 09:55 pm (UTC)
you sound ott about such an irrelevant detail tbh, it's just an article somewhere on the internet and yes they could have used girl most likely too (where she was the lead), or something she wrote like the confessions of a toot fairy but like it or not it's undeniable anchorman (and it's disappointing but star-studded sequel) has an instant name recognition unlike other films she's been in. and you can't say they did her wrong especially because they use bridesmaids and her script writing work as the reason kristen made it to the top. idgi

juniorquincy 8th-Jun-2014 09:35 pm (UTC)
love wiig. so many people have told me that my sense of humor is reminiscent to hers.
hypnology 8th-Jun-2014 09:36 pm (UTC)
Wasn't there a rumor of a sequel to Bridesmaids a while ago?
littlehayzay 8th-Jun-2014 09:38 pm (UTC)
I might be completely making this up but I feel like they said they would consider it but that she and Annie want to do new stuff instead of just retreading old stuff.
alethaweapon 8th-Jun-2014 09:41 pm (UTC)
Bridesmaids was perfection and should remain a one-off.

I hate when sequels ruin something good.
ophiodeiros 8th-Jun-2014 09:42 pm (UTC)
simply pretend they don't exist.
bitchbot 10th-Jun-2014 02:07 am (UTC)

badass4pres 8th-Jun-2014 10:16 pm (UTC)
That scene made me cry tbh. I empathized so fucking much with Kristen's character.

Actually, Bridesmaids is one of the rare movies in which I empathize completely with the main character.
palmthejoker 8th-Jun-2014 11:36 pm (UTC)
It hit too close to home in some parts. I feel like I'm always going to be Kristin's character without the cute Irish cop.
luvallthis 9th-Jun-2014 12:03 am (UTC)
Me too. I know it's a comedy but I sobbed in most of the film, lol.
ophiodeiros 9th-Jun-2014 02:42 pm (UTC)
lol yes and i liked how she was bluntly told to stop the pity party and do something about her life instead of forever comparing herself to people around her. there's nothing worse for a happy mental place than looking into the neighbour's lawn
smashpumpkins21 8th-Jun-2014 09:50 pm (UTC)
I really wanna watch Bridesmaids now. Kristen is also really pretty imo. Wasn't she dating Fab from the strokes?
ophiodeiros 9th-Jun-2014 02:44 pm (UTC)
yes, i think they were seriously considering getting married but they broke up in 2013 iirc. she was married before

She needs to be in more movies

Bridesmaids was everything to me when it came out, I think I saw it 3 times in theaters and then my roommate and I had a viewing party for it in our dorm when it came out on DVD lol

bnlmaroonvwbug 8th-Jun-2014 11:13 pm (UTC)
I'm so happy she's flopping right and left because she's so overrated.
blackbritt4eva 9th-Jun-2014 12:20 am (UTC)
I just finished watching Girl Most Likely and I could relate with her character so much.

Not that I faked a suicide to get a boyfriend back, but feeling stuck after a lot of shit has fallen through the cracks for you.
stellar_ball 9th-Jun-2014 12:29 am (UTC)
I love her and can't wait for more stuff from her. And speaking of female writers, I saw Obvious Child today and I LOOOOOOOVED IT. I really hope it opens in more cities because it's just so good.
sicksiqsick 9th-Jun-2014 12:32 am (UTC)
I'm so excited for Obvious Child I LOVE Jenny Slate. I'm going to see it Friday in Boston I'm glad you loved it!
stellar_ball 9th-Jun-2014 12:35 am (UTC)
She was so perfect in it. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing the character like she did. I hope you love it!
sicksiqsick 9th-Jun-2014 12:30 am (UTC)
I'm watching Bridesmaids rn
xperfume 9th-Jun-2014 12:37 am (UTC)

lacefrontdealer 9th-Jun-2014 12:41 am (UTC)
Bridesmaids was incredibly unfunny. Mad I gave into the hype on that one.
alquilaunhombre 9th-Jun-2014 10:21 am (UTC)
Guys I know didn't get a lot of the jokes in Bridemaids that made me cry with laughter
