OWN announces cast for "If Loving You is Wrong" + to simulcast Dr. Maya Angelou's memorial

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today the principal cast of the previously announced television drama “If Loving You is Wrong” (former working title: “Single Mom’s Club”) from prolific writer, director, producer Tyler Perry. The new series, premiering September 2014, follows the relationships of a group of husbands and wives that live and love on the same street. While The Neighbors come from very different backgrounds, their lives are similar – raising children, dealing with exes, worrying about money and keeping romance in their relationships. But just below the surface --- secrets, lies and deception threaten to destroy what they have built.

Amanda Clayton (“John Carter”) plays Alex who is married to Brad, played by Aiden Turner (“All My Children”). Together they have two children. The couple’s relationship seems solid, but a secret threatens to derail their marriage.

Heather Hemmens (“Hellcats”) plays Marcie, a real estate agent married to Randal, played by Eltony Williams (“24”). Together they are struggling with Marcie’s inability to have children.

Zulay Henao (“The Single Moms Club”) plays Esperanza, ex-wife of Edward, played by Joel Rush (“Days Of Our Lives”). She and Edward are parents of an eight-year-old girl. Esperanza is terrified what her ex will do when he finds out about her new boyfriend, Julius, played by Octavio Pizano (“East Los High”).

Edwina Findley (“Treme”) plays Kelly, mother to a young son. Her boyfriend, and father to her son, has been away on a relief mission in Haiti for a year.

April Parker-Jones (“Jericho”) plays Natalie, a single mother of three kids at home and one adult son in prison. She constantly struggles to pay the bills and her ex Lushion, played by Charles Malik Whitfield (“Law And Order”), is trying to love her while taking care of their son, Frank.

“If Loving You is Wrong” is OWN’s second primetime drama series from Tyler Perry. The network’s first drama series from Tyler Perry, “The Haves and the Have Nots” (Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET) returned with new episodes on May 27 to over three million total viewers, becoming the network’s highest season premiere in history. Additionally, popular comedy series “Love Thy Neighbor” from Tyler Perry, Wednesday night’s #1 original cable series for African-American W25-54 and total viewers in Q1 2014, will return with new episodes on Wednesday, June 25 at 9 p.m. ET.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will simulcast Dr. Maya Angelou’s private memorial service in celebration of her legacy being held at Wake Forest University, North Carolina this Saturday, June 7 at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT on OWN. The memorial service will also be available to view on Oprah.com at www.Oprah.com/MayaAngelou.

“I've been blessed to have Maya Angelou as my mentor, mother/sister, and friend since my 20’s. She was there for me always, guiding me through some of the most important years of my life. The world knows her as a poet but at the heart of her, she was a teacher. ‘When you learn, teach. When you get, give’ is one of my best lessons from her.

She won three Grammys, spoke six languages and was the second poet in history to recite a poem at a presidential inauguration. But what stands out to me most about Maya Angelou is not what she has done or written or spoken, it’s how she lived her life. She moved through the world with unshakeable calm, confidence and a fierce grace. I loved her and I know she loved me. I will profoundly miss her. She will always be the rainbow in my clouds.”

but it flopped so they changed the title of the show, oop.
smilofax 6th-Jun-2014 05:35 pm (UTC)
lol, is it based on the film?

I'm mad Nia got stuck with that and couldn't even squeeze herself a cameo in Think Like A Man/Too

loosely based.

So sick of Tyler Perry tho. This is basically his network.

um, the queen of OWN would like a word with you.

His writing is so terrible. I wish she'd break ties with him and find better writers/producers if she wants more original shows. I love Masterclass and Super Soul Sundays. Tyler Perry just cheapens shit. "Love Thy Neighbor" is so embarrassing.

Well she/OWN has a lot of better quality stuff in the pipeline.

He brought in ratings on a cheap budget, which finally got them in the black, so he was sort of a necessary evil.

but i can't lie, i love the haves and the have nots!!

Lmao. This classic episode.

I just realized.....how long before people start pushing for a Maya Angelou bio pic....

Who do you guys think they will cast?

My bets are on this one:

she'll bring out a sensually stiff sexiness to Maya that will really be refreshing in todays culture.

kleptonce of course.

i mean, she is this generation's keeper of words.

stealyoncé is this generation's maya angelou. i mean, she does it all: writes music, op-eds, poetry, produces, edits, designs, landscapes, composes, directs, fucks camels, engineers, and paints. she probably speaks at least 7 languages.

Oprah's Maya Angelou commercials are so embarrassing and self serving. (Yes I get that OWN is her network)

Ew. Joel. He used to teach at the Bootcamp I go to and he was an asshole to me. I do not like him.

I watched Iconoclasts with Dr. Maya Angelou and Dave Chappelle, and it was so wonderful. I hope they air it again because I missed the first 30 minutes.
