There was a time when I was only allowed to consume media endorsed by Focus on the Family, and I made it work, you know? So I'm very familiar with Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins's Left Behind series, because it had a bunch of death and Satan and explosions and stuff, and that made it way more exciting than Christy or The Buttercream Gang or whatever.
By the time the Kirk Cameron Left Behind film came out, I was in college and could watch whatever I wanted, so I've never seen that particular adaptation. I can promise you that I will be seeing this one. I love that the trailer says "No matter what you believe," because as a person who does not believe the Rapture is coming, I'm happy to know that I'm still welcome to watch this movie.
I just find it amazing that there is a film out there that stars both Nicolas Cage and Chad Michael Murray (or ChaMM, as I not-so-affectionately call him). One-time American Idol winner Jordin Sparks will join them! Every other member of this cast, along with the property itself, screams DTV, and yet this is going to be an actual theatrical release starring Nicolas Cage.
I really hope some of the craziest stuff from the books makes it into this film. It's all Marks of the Beast and bloodlust and heaven beams. If former stuntman turned director Vic Anthony's reboot has a fraction of the insanity of these books, Left Behind is going to be a blast.
