Elizabeth Olsen is moving out of the shadow of her older sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley and making 2014 her year. Her transition from indie movies to blockbusters has seen the 25-year-old score a number one film this week with Godzilla. So whose career is the actress hoping to follow?
Starring alongside Aaron Taylor Johnson and Bryan Cranston in Gareth Edwards' take on the classic monster tale, Elizabeth has made the leap to box office gold after a string of critically acclaimed roles.
Talking to Today, Elizabeth reveals that she made a conscious decision to chase more high profile parts, with her efforts also seeing her land a lead role in Avengers Age of Ultron:
“I was kind of just cruising on the ride for a little bit and not really making choices that might be strategic. And you kinda have to. I wasn’t working and not because I didn’t like anything,” she explained.
Elizabeth has also found inspiration in other actresses her age who have managed to combine critical and commercial successes: “I really wanted to be part of something larger", she reveals. "I really wanted to be included in a group of young actresses that I look up to, whom I think are phenomenal. Obviously, Jennifer Lawrence and Shailene Woodley are phenomenal. Mia Wasikowska and Imogen Poots and Rooney Mara and Kate Mara … It’s a great group.”
Well, three out of six isn't bad.
