Cannes red carpet proposal amuses John Travolta + 20 years of Pulp Fiction

John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston helped a fellow guest propose to his girlfriend on the red carpet at a Cannes charity gala last night (May 22).

The Hollywood couple stood back and watched with anticipation, as film producer Oscar Generale got down on one knee and popped the question to his overwhelmed partner, model and actress Denny Méndez.

Travolta and Preston then pointed excitedly toward their friend as he held out a ring for an emotional Méndez, before clapping and hugging the couple as the proposal was accepted.

It took place at the start of amfAR's 21st Cinema Against AIDS gala - as part of the current 67th Cannes Film Festival - at the elegant Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d'Antibes.

Travolta wore a black and navy tuxedo and was still sporting his tiny black beard on the bottom of his chin, while Preston looked glamorous in a red lace floor-length gown.

Quentin Tarantino Cuts a Rug for the 'Pulp Fiction' Party at Cannes

What could make Quentin Tarantino dance the red carpet? Celebrating 20 years since the Cannes premiere of his breakthrough movie, Pulp Fiction. Tarantino, along with two of Pulp’s stars, Uma Thurman and John Travolta, were on hand for a special Cannes event and beach screening of the film, prompting Tarantino to do a shimmy straight out of Jack Rabbit Slim’s.

At a press conference earlier in the day, Tarantino called the Palme d’Or he received for Pulp Fiction his greatest achievement. “Of all the trophies that I have won,” the two-time Oscar winner said, “it’s the one that has the biggest place of honor inside of my house. It’s the one I want another one of maybe some day, before they turn out the lights.”
