Courtney Love makes 'Nevermind' claim.

Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love has claimed one of the songs on their classic 1991 album 'Nevermind' is about her - but she won't say which one.

Speaking exclusively to NME, Love also acknowledged that most of the songs are about Cobain's girlfriend before he got together with Love, Tobi Valli, but she says there's one that he wrote about her towards the end of the sessions.

She said: "There's only really one about me because it was written late in the day. Most of the songs are about another girl, which is annoying. But I'm not gonna name (which one's about me) because I feel like it's just my secret. A lot of the songs on there aren't even about girl stuff."

Also in this week's 15th anniversary 'Nevermind' special, we take a track-by-track look at the album as well as speaking to all the major players, such as producer Butch Vig and drummer Dave Grohl.

Elsewhere in this week's NME, there's an exclusive interview with Noel Gallagher on joining Kasabian for a night, a preview of bands set to feature in upcoming films, we take a look at The Killers' live return and review new albums from Beck and Larrikin Love.

hmmm... my guess is territorial pissing.

"Most of the songs are about another girl....a lot of the songs on there aren't even about girl stuff."
kind of contradicting herself there.
lisbonlovesjacq 20th-Sep-2006 02:50 pm (UTC)
I think she meant most of the songs that ARE about a girl are about a girl other than her.

A man wrote a song about his wife? Unheard of!

Thanks, Courtney. I forgot you were a celebrity for a minute, there.

Nevermind came out in fall 1991...they were married in February 1992. The album would have been written much earlier in their relationship, obviously.
romanleader 20th-Sep-2006 02:09 pm (UTC)
Well.. Well.. Okay. Owned.
freezerburn 21st-Sep-2006 04:46 am (UTC)
to add to the above comment, almost all of "nevermind" was written long before kurt even met courtney.

but iawtc to the second part. she will never stop trying to rewrite history, seeing as the only person who can refute it is dead.

I would have to agree with you. That or "Drain You."

I wondered about Drain You, too.

It'd better not be Drain You, I like that song and Courtney is a skanky ho.
nexttopmess Re: Hmmm.....21st-Sep-2006 12:20 am (UTC)
Drain You is the first thing that popped in to my head too. She seems really draining. lol.
cinicolives Re: Hmmm.....21st-Sep-2006 05:37 pm (UTC)
No, Drain You is definately about Tobi Vail. It quotes her.

Isn't it Tobi Vail?
yay_its_gillian 20th-Sep-2006 01:41 pm (UTC)
That it is.

I'm glad someone else was annoyed by that.
sharks_teeth 20th-Sep-2006 01:44 pm (UTC)
Is she still around? I haven't heard about her in ages.

I guess it could be more obvious...cause I still don't see it.

Polly's actually based off of a true story. some guy kidnapped some girl up in Washington and tortured her with a blow-torch and whatnot. She ended up escaping from him.

I don't remember all of the details. it's early!

my guess is "drain you"
whiterteeth 20th-Sep-2006 01:59 pm (UTC)
Get your new album out already, damnit.
will_2001 20th-Sep-2006 02:04 pm (UTC)
But I thought they didn't meet until after Nevermind came out. I have to read Come As You Are again.
where_i_begin 20th-Sep-2006 02:07 pm (UTC)
No, they met earlier.

For a moment there after reading the title, I thought she was going to claim she wrote most of Nevermind. Whew.

Me too, I'm well disappointed!
fisher55 20th-Sep-2006 03:45 pm (UTC)
didn't she?
_zox_ 20th-Sep-2006 03:53 pm (UTC)
Well, maybe Courtney did...and by Courtney, I meant Billy Corgan, who actually writes her songs for her.

Awww, Kurt. We miss you.

Think about how different music would be today if he had lived.... would all wouldn't be sporting those "sexyback" icons, for one thing.
lisbonlovesjacq 20th-Sep-2006 02:52 pm (UTC)
Actually it would have been worse for him if he'd lived. Now he's set to ambiguous young-death icon status, a la Marilyn Monroe. If he'd lived he would have just grown older and future generations would see him as this old rocker guy instead of some ~*~*~*h3r0*~*~*~ of music that he is now.
vulgarcriminal 20th-Sep-2006 03:01 pm (UTC)
see: Paul McMartney (how the fuck do you spell his last name?)
see: John Lennon

bellichka 20th-Sep-2006 03:07 pm (UTC)
I can agree with that to a certain extent. I think he was a very gifted musician, who would have gone on doing exactly that, had he lived. I think his cult status is taken a bit far, but I liked Nirvana when he was alive and I like Nirvana just the same now that he's dead, only I don't think we would've had to deal with a lot of the pop drivel if Kurt had lived and continued to make good music. I guess we'll just never know.
concha_malvada 20th-Sep-2006 03:32 pm (UTC)
exactly. he'd be like poor Axl Rose, with bad face lifts and desperate wannabe hair styles.
_asofyesterday 20th-Sep-2006 06:10 pm (UTC)
We'd probably still all be sporting those icons. Musical changes aren't dependent on whether or not a so called "savior" of music is alive or dead. It's a huge large circle of things going in and out of style and nothing else. Pop music was starting to come back into vogue even when Cobain was still alive. The grunge movement was actually starting to decline before Kurt died and his death really only served to cement it as something more than a flash in the pan gimmick. The movement had a martyr which is why it's still so dearly remembered. Kurt did do a lot but I personally think he gets way too much credit.

we cxuld only hope for a world of music with actual talent...
