George Michaels and Mariah Carey have more than just modern day Christmas classics in common. Last night, Carey released the title, tracklisting and Standard & Deluxe covers to her new album, Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse, available May 27.
In addition to collabos with Nas, Fabolous, Miguel, R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige, the album also contains a cover of Michael's One More Try, from his 1987 Faith album.
1992 - I'll Be There (Feat. Trey Lorenz) - Jackson 5 Cover
Mariah's first taste of a successful cover was her soulful duet with background singer Lorenz over this Jackson 5 classic at her MTV Unplugged concert.
1993 - Without You - Badfinger Cover
While a Badfinger cover, Mariah's version more closely resembles Harry Nilsson's and is considered her signature song overseas.
1994 - Endless Love (With Luther Vandross) - Diana Ross & Lionel Richie Cover
Mariah and Luther were an R&B match made in heaven.
1995 - Open Arms - Journey Cover
While this cover on Mariah's Daydream album didn't capture Without You's success, it still manages to showcase her soulful sound.
1997 - The Beautiful Ones (Feat. Dru Hill) - Prince Cover
In this 7 minute song, Mariah and Dru Hill gave an homage to Prince on her Butterfly album, known to many of her fans as her magnum opus.
1998 - Sweetheart (Feat. Jermaine Dupri) - Rainy Davis Cover
Her duet with frequent collaborator Dupri is one of her many covers of songs that were big hits in the New York City scene, as later evidenced on 2001's Glitter.
1998 - I Still Believe - Brenda K Starr Cover
Mariah was a background singer during Starr's live performances of I Still Believe in 1988. Mariah covered this as a tribute to Starr on her 1998 #1's album.
1988 - Do You Know Where You're Going To - Diana Ross Cover
In 1998, both Mariah and Jennifer Lopez were Sony recording artists, and both recorded versions of this Diana Ross classic. Due to promotional clashing, Mariah's version was only a bonus on her #1's album, as was it a bonus on Jennifer's On the 6 album.
1999 - Against All Odds - Phil Collins Cover
Covered in the style of her own cover of Open Arms, Against All Odds was a contrast to hip-hop tracks like Did I Do That & Heartbreaker Remix on Mariah's Rainbow album.
2001 - Last Night a DJ Saved My Life (Feat. Busta Rhymes and Fabolous) - Indeep Cover
Released on her 80's concept record Glitter, Mariah's version was dominated by hip-hop artists.
2001 - Didn't Mean to Turn You On - Cherrelle Cover
Producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis got Mariah to sing over the exact same track Cherrelle sang their version on. Also featured on Glitter.
2002 - Bringin' On the Heartbreak - Def Leppard Cover
Mariah's version on her Charmbracelet album even got Def Leppard's own approval, even if metal fans scoffed at it.
2008 - Help Me Make It Through the Night - Kris Kristofferson Cover
An unauthorized leak of this was released in 2010. Mariah recorded this cover in 2007 for her Tennessee movie, but it was scrapped.
2009 - I Want to Know What Love Is - Foreigner Cover
While Mariah's covers haven't ignited the charts in the US and Europe the way they did in the 1990s, this cover spent 27 weeks atop the Brazilian charts in 2009. From her Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel album.
