Damon Lindelof's upcoming drama, toplined by Justin Theroux, premieres June 29

Bits and pieces have been doled out about the series via atmospheric teasers, but the latest footage -- debuting before Sunday's Game of Thrones -- offers a more complete look at the post-apocalyptic series. Based on the Tom Perrotta novel, The Leftovers begins three years after 2 percent of the Earth's population disappears without explanation (aka the Rapture) and focuses on the people who didn't make the cut living in a changed world.

"It's time again for the world to mourn the departed," the trailer opens as the remaining inhabitants on Earth have settled into a lazy haze years later, with many coming around on the fact that they will never return. The town of Mapleton even holds a parade in remembrance of the event and unveils a new statue in its honor. "We still wonder where they went and why," becomes the town's unanswered question.

Meanwhile, the faux serenity is about to be challenged: "Some bad shit's coming and there's no getting around it. Grace period's over," warns one. Things go from bad to worse (just look at the cult!) as the town's chief of police (Justin Theroux) soon discovers: "Nobody's ready to feel better, they're ready to f---ing explode." It being HBO and all, expect plenty of violence, nudity and sex.

Amy Brenneman, Carrie Coon, Christopher Eccleston, Chris Zylka, Ann Dowd, Liv Tyler, Michael Gaston, Charlie Carver, Max Carver, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren and Margaret Qually also star.

hbo is going downhill so fast, trying to cash in on trends instead of setting them

they're still in their 'eating Ben & Jerry's' phase in their spiral of shame since they passed on Mad Men and we have to suffer as a result

Yay to James Blake.

Anyway, I'll probably watch.

oop @ this looking good

This seems more appropriate as a mini-series, but it'll be fun to see what direction the story heads in over time. Definitely excited for this project.

That cast sounds great! i´m going to watch this!!

Does this show have gay guys or am I seeing things wrong?

It really looks like it. I'll give it one episode to live up to this expectation.

it seems more like a sociopath relationship with a tad bit of homoeroticism thrown in the mix because you know, the crazies don't care about personal space.

Ehh I'll probably still ship it.

This looks like a complete mess, but I know I'll be watching it for the gay content. It's been a long winter and mama has needs.

I saw the preview tonight before GoT... I literally could not figure out what I was seeing. God bless the people planning to watch this mess.

My same exact thoughts, Rachel. I would like to know that song though...

Retrograde, by James Blake (if you hadn't already found out!) :)

I legit thought I had the wrong channel when the preview came on. I was like wait, this isn't GoT!

he ruins everything. i would watch it if it were ANYONE else in charge

tbh i will probably still watch it but i won't be happy about it

Nothing could compel me to watch another show produced by Damon Lindelof.

2% seems low for all that angst tbh. I get why on an individual level that would be upsetting, but on a societal level the response seems off. Like, I'm from rural Maine, there'd probably be no appreciable difference in day to day life up here if that happened.

2% of the world's population is still close to 150 MILLION people though, it would be hard to ignore that on a larger scale

I guess I'm just hung up on the 2% vs 98% thing. It's a lot of people, but spread out over the entire world, it shouldn't be enough to grind things to a standstill/portend the ultimate destruction of mankind? I just want something really impressive, like at least 20% in these situations.

I mean, if 2% of my hometown went missing that would be roughly 6 people. We could just go one assuming they were eaten by bears or something.

I think where you'd experience the loss is through government bodies and the media. There'd be less entertainment and more than likely there'll be more fiefdom-esque properties from more vocal and powerful people that'll take advantage of the smaller crowds.

nope we're done here Lindelof fool me once shame on you, fool me twice..... you can't get fooled again
