Lorde ordered off stage

Lorde has apologised to fans after postponing her up-coming Australian tour under medical advice.

The singer was due to play eight shows, starting in Melbourne on April 24, but has been told by doctors to return to New Zealand for "immediate rest and recuperation in order to regain complete health and continue touring for the rest of the year," according to a statement from the tour's promoter.

In the announcement, Lorde told fans: "It breaks my heart to have to postpone these shows as the band and I absolutely love playing to Australian crowds, and it was not a decision we made lightly. I know I need to focus on getting better in order to perform at my best. We'll be with you as soon as we can, Aussies".

Organisers are currently trying to reschedule the Australian tour.

The tour had already been expanded, with an extra date added in Sydney after her first show there sold out.

The 17-year-old has just wrapped two performances at Coachella Festival in the States.

Before that, she played at Lollapalooza in South America, as well as solo shows around the States.

Earlier this month she performed alongside the surviving members of Nirvana as they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Lorde tweeted the news to fans, explaining she has a chest infection and her management team and parents have stepped in and enforced the break from performing.

....But is she playing Lollapalooza in August in Chicago? :(
dumpweeds 22nd-Apr-2014 04:13 am (UTC)
her australian dates were in just a few days so she'll be fine by august :)
blue_birds 22nd-Apr-2014 04:42 am (UTC)

Every time I see this girl, I get serious Amy Irving in Carrie vibes.
hellicoptajuuce 22nd-Apr-2014 03:52 am (UTC)

vanishingbee 22nd-Apr-2014 03:55 am (UTC)
like a yeerk, kiwis have to return to their homeland once every few months to recharge their hobbit batteries

hellicoptajuuce 22nd-Apr-2014 09:57 am (UTC)
yes but she was in Oz, so why fly all that way when you can just rest up in a hospital or hotel in Oz?
shecreep 22nd-Apr-2014 11:26 am (UTC)
it's like a four hour flight man, no biggy
bloody_morgan 22nd-Apr-2014 01:27 pm (UTC)
some people feel more comfortable and are more able to rest at home instead of a strange, unfamiliar place.
hay_nako 22nd-Apr-2014 02:28 pm (UTC)
shes underage and her family has been exchanging guardian duties with her for months now

also i'd rather feel at home if i'm sick tbh
boweeko 22nd-Apr-2014 03:54 am (UTC)
I hope she gets well soon!
vanishingbee 22nd-Apr-2014 03:55 am (UTC)
touring seriously seems to be so rough on young female artists. Whether you're Adele, Lorde, Miley, Gaga, shit happens to your body on tour. Not to even mention the emotional side of things that you see in play with through people like KP.

Maybe Rihanna's blasé dgaf rudeness is actually the better choice, health wise.
holyfrijoles_2 22nd-Apr-2014 03:59 am (UTC)
Especially in Lorde's case, she didn't really have a lot of time to prepare before going on a massive world tour.
vanishingbee 22nd-Apr-2014 04:00 am (UTC)
IDK what you'd even have to do to prepare for a tour like Lorde's, though, which wouldn't have choreography-- I literally have no idea what kind of strain travel+singing on that regular a basis would have
holyfrijoles_2 22nd-Apr-2014 04:06 am (UTC)
Maybe it could be more of an emotional thing of adjusting to her new position in life/jetting all over the place and whatnot.
kingsandcastles 22nd-Apr-2014 04:22 am (UTC)
if one direction can have a choreographer, so can she.
beatlesluv 22nd-Apr-2014 04:25 am (UTC)
Your vocal chords, bouncing between time zones, two shoes a night, talking to the crowd, germs of every city....it can be exhausting all around. Believe it. And all the rehearsals you do when you sing....
chilli_cheese 22nd-Apr-2014 04:44 am (UTC)
It's like being an athlete, u need to be in too physical condition (not just vocally) and emotionally prepared.
Otherwise you get cancellations and sicknesses, although I bet I if u lipsync you don't have to worry as much.
jazzypom so true!22nd-Apr-2014 12:53 pm (UTC)
There's a reason why Madonna and Beyonce exercise like gladiators, you really have to be in top form for that. Before Royals blew up, Lorde was just a weedy 17 year old kid chilling in her parents' house. She needs to start eating right and exercising.
aria_grace 22nd-Apr-2014 04:12 am (UTC)
I don't honestly know how they do it. I'm hoarse after attending a sporting event or yelling too much. I cannot imagine singing for hours every night.
sirlolsworthy 22nd-Apr-2014 04:57 am (UTC)
proper vocal training goes a looong way, I saw one of my singing inspirations live recently and omg the way he sang, he's going to need a total laryngeal replacement before too long the way he's abusing that thing.
thejoker 22nd-Apr-2014 10:09 am (UTC)
Forreal. Just talking to people for eight hours a day at a retail job already does my head in.
crackedbelljar 22nd-Apr-2014 04:15 am (UTC)
not a lot of artists do nit have proper training on how to protect their voices. Add that to your crazy touring schedule and you've wan out girls and cancelled shows.
complisult 22nd-Apr-2014 04:18 am (UTC)
TBH, most female pop stars have a much greater vocal range than male artists. It makes sense to me that the wear and tear on their vocal chords is greater and that they'd get worn out more quickly (which can in turn lead to other illnesses, as stress/tiredness can weaken the immune system).
sirlolsworthy 22nd-Apr-2014 04:54 am (UTC)
I am a singer/songwriter and if I ever made it big (or any) time I seriously don't think I'd ever be to tour beyond local small venues. My health is so fragile, my vocal chords might in great shape but the rest of me is a wreck at the best of times, I can't even begin to understand how these girls handle it.
xadyx 22nd-Apr-2014 03:56 am (UTC)
Get well soon
loveablescar 22nd-Apr-2014 03:59 am (UTC)
I always forget she literally came out of nowhere. Hopefully she gets rest and slows down
yurasama_love 22nd-Apr-2014 04:00 am (UTC)
I hope she fully recovers!
xoxgoodbye 22nd-Apr-2014 04:01 am (UTC)
Sometimes I forget she's still basically a kid, and she definitely needs a break.
holyfrijoles_2 22nd-Apr-2014 04:09 am (UTC)
Hope she feels better soon. Although lol at this title, it made me think someone had to do this to her:

petecarl 22nd-Apr-2014 02:46 pm (UTC)
same.
winter_lace 22nd-Apr-2014 04:10 am (UTC)
Poor thing. Being sick sucks
aria_grace 22nd-Apr-2014 04:10 am (UTC)
Awww. And good on her parents and team for stepping in and not overworking her.
jazzypom yep, that's what happens when your parents don't depend on you for the house money22nd-Apr-2014 12:55 pm (UTC)
Her dad's an engineer, her mum's a poet of some local reknown, they seemed to be living comfortably before Lorde blew up. So they can afford to have her at home recuperating.
nicky_nacker 22nd-Apr-2014 04:13 am (UTC)
Rob Grant poisoned her
dafuqgetoffmeho 22nd-Apr-2014 04:23 am (UTC)
i like her song "the love club"
dolce_piccante 22nd-Apr-2014 04:42 am (UTC)
while she is young, so i can't fault her for needing a break, i find it interesting that all these young musicians have such issues with cancelling blocks of shows, more specifically with issues of vocal fatigue. like i get it, they're flying all over and lack of sleep and all that, but part of being a professional musician is having to take care of your instrument (your body), especially in times of high stress. do they not have some sort of teacher or coach who can help them? it just seems like it's happening a lot recently.
blue_birds 22nd-Apr-2014 04:43 am (UTC)
aww I hope she gets well. I'm glad her team isn't pushing her though.
laceleather 22nd-Apr-2014 05:23 am (UTC)
you really couldn't tell she was having issues 2 nights ago. she delivered a flawless performance at coachella 2.
daceymormont 22nd-Apr-2014 08:28 am (UTC)
"Gollum girl" lmfao I hope she gets better soon
storms 22nd-Apr-2014 10:12 am (UTC)

tundrabeast 22nd-Apr-2014 12:36 pm (UTC)
poor thing! maybe she could have started out with a smaller tour. being a pop artist i guess u have to compete ruthlessly though.
hay_nako 22nd-Apr-2014 03:22 pm (UTC)
didnt she do a bunch of festivals in aus not long ago, she better slow down. must be the desert dust

prophecypro 22nd-Apr-2014 06:20 pm (UTC)
