Nicole Richie is known for making bold fashion statements.
But on Saturday, Nicole was overshadowed for once, by her husband Joel Madden's attire - which included a piece from Kanye West's Yeezus tour merchandise which featured the rapper's take on the confederate flag.
The 35-year-old Good Charlotte rocker appeared to be throwing support to his fellow music maker as he joined his wife for a Saturday stroll out and about in Los Angeles.
However, the garment has caused much controversy for rapper Kanye, since it was first released on his tour last year.
The Yeezus rapper put his merchandise line on sale at a pop-up store alongside his fiancee Kim Kardashian's store - Dash - during his tour in 2013.
Joel is a fan of Kanye's work, as he was spotted heading out to watch his Los Angeles concert back in October of 2013.
Kanye was spotted wearing the patch on his jacket as he stepped out of Barneys in New York City last year, and the imagery was later showcased in not only his merchandise range but also as an exhibit in his pop-up store.
It was no accident by the music mogul and self-recognized genius to make use of the flag, which has historically been used by used by racist and extremist groups like the Ku Klux Klan.
In an interview with AMP radio at the time, Kanye said that he made the move intentionally as a proactive move forward towards equality and a slap in the face against racist bigotry.
'The Confederate flag represented slavery in a way,' he explained. 'That's my abstract take on what I know about it, right? So I wrote the song, New Slaves.'
Kanye, who is widely known and often celebrated for pushing boundaries, continued: 'I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It's my flag now. Now what you gonna do?'
