‘Being number one is the most amazing feeling ever,’ Canadian Kiesza told OfficialCharts.com. ‘I just want to say thank you to everybody who’s supported it. I never expected this at all when I created Hideaway; it’s amazing to see people come out of the woodwork and fall in love with it, so thank you!’
The 25-year-old – who is also a classically trained ballerina – first realised she wanted a career in music while working as a code breaker for the Royal Canadian Navy.
‘Music was always a part of my life, but it was more of a hobby,’ she explained. ‘When I started sailing on large vessels, people would bring instruments onto the ship and start jamming, and that led me to start song writing. That was the first time that I realised I had a natural instinct for it, and it just led me down this whole musical road that I’m on.’
Kiesza‘s change of career seems to be paying off as her debut has become the UK’s third fastest selling single of 2014, shifting more than 136,000 copies in it’s first week. Clean Bandit’s chart-topper Rather Be featuring Jess Glynne is the second fastest selling (163,000 week one), while Pitbull’s Timber featuring Ke$ha is in first place (139,000 copies).
