Some Dragon Age stuff

Dragon Age: Inquisition Won't Have Party Member DLC

Dragon Age: Inquisition won't be getting any post-launch DLC introducing new characters as such a thing would require content to be included on the disc, something BioWare is wary of.

Speaking to OXM, creative director Mike Laidlaw explained that due to how enmeshed in the rest of the game companions are, some data would need to be included in the disc to make the addition of more at a later date possible. Given the generally negative outlook that on-disc DLC provokes, however, the team has apparently opted to err on the side of caution.

"Because of how deeply enmeshed in the system companion characters are, we can’t just add them on the fly, part of them has to be shipped on the disc,” he said. “[This] has led to criticism that we’re forcing people to pay for content they already own.

“It’s not the case, but we’ve decided this time to not go that route. There will be no DLC party members.”

As a result, Dragon Age: Inquisition will offer you nine party members to choose between, and it's looking like this number won't be entering the double digits post-launch. Confirmed characters are Cassandra, Iron Bull, Sera, Solas, Varric and Vivienne. Rumours are also doing the rounds that Alistair is set to return.

You can hate your lover in Dragon Age: Inquisition

BioWare's iconic game romances are evolving again for Dragon Age: Inquisition, it seems, allowing for different kinds of love between characters to shine.

This time a rival may become your "hate-filled forbidden love", or you may find yourself smooching a friend you joke around with, BioWare mentioned at PAX East as reported by attendee LadyInsanity - the only report I can find. There's also the more traditional romance route of falling affectionately in love.

Confirmed as love interests during the panel were Cullen, the templar who's appeared in every Dragon Age game so far, and Cassandra Pentaghast, the seeker who interrogates Varric throughout Dragon Age 2.

There will be nine companions in total and they'll be the best in their respective fields. They'll also be evenly spread across martial disciplines, allowing flexibility in your group builds.

There's a "solid possibility" that heroes Hawke and the Grey Warden from previous Dragon Age games will feature. Flemeth, Morrigan's mum and also a dragon, will "probably" show up, and at least one character from the Dragon Age novel Asunder will appear. BioWare didn't say who but there are a few who could: Adrian, Cole, Lambert, Rhys and Evangeline.

Dragons, incidentally, will represent scripted, major confrontations that will need preparing for.

The magical realm of The Fade - the place where magic power and demons come from - is being downplayed in Inquisition. You will be the only one who can venture into the Fade rifts and close them, apparently, but you won't be doing so frequently.

Which rifts you close are your choice, as are the areas of the world you choose to bring under the influence of your Inquisition. You can send scouts ahead to learn the story of an area and understand why it will be beneficial to your cause, and you can send troops to fix and secure towers around the world.

But securing new areas will be no walk in the park. BioWare used the example of a snowy highlands area during the panel, under the organised and powerful command of a Red Templar group - raw red lyrium addicts. It's littered with soldiers all working for one cause and will require thought and muscle to penetrate. There will also be monsters such as a lyrium-mad Behemoth in that area to battle.

Stealth and traps will apparently play a role in laying down strategies to gain an advantage when fighting breaks out, but whether that means encounters are generally hard is unclear.

You'll be able to hunt animals and pick herbs as resources, but they are finite and will deplete.

BioWare talked a bit more about the curious Keep feature in Dragon Age: Inquisition, a base that has an element of social networking that you can share with people online. It's talked about as a free web-based experience, and possibly relates to what producer Cameron Lee was talking about when he said, "We want Inquisition to be an experience you can take with you everywhere - to work, the commute home, the living room, bed."

The game's due out on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 this autumn.

I don't get why ppl are so mad about Cullen being a romance option?

i'm very sad

it's hard for me to get into new games. knowing it's something that needs to be downloaded takes away the tangibility of it. plus, it's weird knowing the creators can tweak whatever they want at any time.

i mean, i've played newer games, but the ones that i really like (the last of us for example) have no replay value lol so it's like... oh. i handed over quite a bit of cash for this... to play it once.

it's like going to grad and wasting $$ on a stupid dress just to wear it once. not my thing tbh
wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:03 pm (UTC)
so you are saying....you probably won't get into this one?
faunyoudork 15th-Apr-2014 10:04 pm (UTC)
i'm saying that it's painful

my brain is telling me no
my heart is telling me i must
patoplastico 15th-Apr-2014 10:13 pm (UTC)
Pirate it, buy it when it's really, really cheap.
browniecakemix 16th-Apr-2014 03:12 am (UTC)
idk I think Dragon Age and Mass Effect have plenty of replay value tbh
fruitchews 15th-Apr-2014 10:04 pm (UTC)
They're mad about Cullen bc he gets all mad and kills a bunch of mages in the tower at the end of DA:O. It's part of his epilogue. And bc of his ramen hair, I think.
wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:05 pm (UTC)
they retconed it tho

...whatever i think hes cute
fruitchews 15th-Apr-2014 10:09 pm (UTC)
I like him too. Oop
browniecakemix 16th-Apr-2014 03:13 am (UTC)
I don't think he always does? I think it depends but upon what I forget
heulog 15th-Apr-2014 10:08 pm (UTC)
I wish they wouldn't always bring back characters from the previous games. I found myself not liking many of them.
unihorncat 15th-Apr-2014 10:08 pm (UTC)
I thought ppl loved Cullen... maybe they're mad cuz all the meta & fic & art they did is now thrown out the window? I remember when DA2 was coming out people really wanted him and Anders in game... but now ppl wish Anders hadn't been a LI... so that might also be why.

I can't wait for this game. Idc that DA2 wasn't the greatest. I still loved it.
wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:10 pm (UTC)
The Anders backlash was the best.

Everyone was on his dick in Awakening, then the mass amounts of fanart/fanfic when it was confirmed he was bisexual, then the game comes out and theres that whole thing with Karl and then the whole chantry thing....

And then ppl started joking about how he was just like that Anders murderer guy irl who shot all those kids...and it stopped being funny.

Adam Howden is so fucking sweet tho
unihorncat 15th-Apr-2014 10:21 pm (UTC)
The backlash was crazy fantastic. Ppl turned on Anders so fast I had whiplash trying to keep up. I romanced Anders first in the game and I watched the world burn with him lol. I also didn't have as big as a problem with his romance as some ppl did... but I don't take the games too intensely unless they majorly fuck up.

That was horrible. People take tings to far.

He is a sweetie <3

ophiodeiros 15th-Apr-2014 10:09 pm (UTC)

mammary_glands 15th-Apr-2014 10:15 pm (UTC)
the character looks nothing like nicki minaj

the only person she looks even slightly similar to is emayatzy corinealdi
ophiodeiros 15th-Apr-2014 10:22 pm (UTC)
lol emayatzy corinealdi. yeah ... everyone's first thought. it's giving me va-va-voom nicki vibes but then i never played this game so idk
patoplastico 15th-Apr-2014 10:12 pm (UTC)
I hope I've time to play it when it's released.
mammary_glands 15th-Apr-2014 10:14 pm (UTC)
here for this. i've been trying to keep up with the new DAI stuff since it's looking so good. fuck, i can't believe i haven't learned my lesson. i'm so stoked for this game.
wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:15 pm (UTC)
The new novel about Empress Celene and Orleais just came out too
mammary_glands 15th-Apr-2014 10:16 pm (UTC)
are the novels any good? i tried out biowares comics and they were a bust. maybe the novels are better.
denythesymptoms 15th-Apr-2014 10:15 pm (UTC)
Vivienne looks flawless. Like one of the best looking Bioware characters ever.
saybonjour 15th-Apr-2014 10:15 pm (UTC)
lol i've always loved cullen, and the PAX video with the developers saying they wanted to give him a chance after 3 games even though he's awkward was cute.

title or description

the qunari are going to slay too
laurasue 15th-Apr-2014 10:19 pm (UTC)

Come on, only question that matters.
shadowpiranha 15th-Apr-2014 10:20 pm (UTC)
Aaaaand this.
wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:21 pm (UTC)

laurasue 15th-Apr-2014 10:21 pm (UTC)
He can bring Bianca into the bedroom, idgaf.
wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:21 pm (UTC)
I hope so.
unihorncat 15th-Apr-2014 10:31 pm (UTC)
Ppl have been REALLY vocal about getting some dwarf dick this time around, so I wouldn't count it out.
wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:20 pm (UTC)

I hope that fuckwit Sebastian never shows up in this game unless I can shoot an arrow in his backside.

wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:35 pm (UTC)
lbr varric will get together with cassandra
shadowpiranha 15th-Apr-2014 10:37 pm (UTC)
Not if I get to either or both tbh. Like Fenris and Isabela.

I could do polyamory though.
beoweasel 15th-Apr-2014 10:55 pm (UTC)
Please, she's not short enough. Varric likes his women dwarven.
littlepunkryo 15th-Apr-2014 10:47 pm (UTC)
I really hope I can get a next gen system before this comes out, I want to play it on a PS4 and see how it looks/how it's different.
lostinshalott 15th-Apr-2014 10:51 pm (UTC)
I thought the hate/love thing was already a thing because my character and Fenris def had angry against the wall sex.
wonderwomanhero 15th-Apr-2014 10:56 pm (UTC)
Don't forget that "magical fisting thing" he does
lostinshalott 15th-Apr-2014 10:57 pm (UTC)
shadowpiranha 16th-Apr-2014 12:00 am (UTC)
No one ever forgets that
beoweasel 15th-Apr-2014 10:56 pm (UTC)
I was thinking that too. Weren't Rivalmances already in Dragon Age 2?
beoweasel 15th-Apr-2014 11:02 pm (UTC)
I'm mixed on Bioware's character DLC.

On one hand, Shale is one of my all time favorite Bioware characters, sitting just under Garrus and Varric.

On the other hand, I hate the shit out of Sebastian. He was just so bland, and the only spot he could fill on my team was Varric's, and I certainly wasn't going to replace the world's most awesomest dwarf for that bland little shit.
daughterjudy 17th-Apr-2014 06:55 am (UTC)
Javik, tho.

Shale is awesome and totally worth the money, Sebastian adds some story with his history with The Chantry but he doesn't really seem necessary. and agreed on Seb vs Varric
beoweasel 17th-Apr-2014 07:25 am (UTC)
Well, I was just going in the context of Dragon Age.

I absolutely adore Shale, not only for her snark and humor but gameplay wise, she's the perfect party member. Her versatility gives her the ability to be worked into any group composition, in fact she's integral to an all-ranged party build (I ran with one, and the amount of damage you can pump out with a bow-wielding Zevran, Leliana, and Rogue!Warden is obscene, I murdered Felmeth in a handful of seconds).
