Happy Weekend ONTD ! Time for another original post from yours truly.
This week we will be showing love to some underrated Hanna-Barbera Cartoons .
Of course a good portion of these cartoons came before most of us were born , but if you had Cartoon Network in the 90s you probably watched shows like The Flintstones , Scooby Doo , Johnny Quest , and Josie and The Pussycats in syndication.
Let's take a look at some of the series that fell under the radar.
1. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kids ( 1973 )
A nice hybrid between Scooby Doo and The Archies with a very attractive cast . The band name was a play on the 1969 film and here is a fun fact , Micky Dolenz from the Monkees did the voice of Wally.
2. The Amazing Chan Clan ( 1972 )
This series revolved around detective Charlie Chan and his 10 mystery solving children. Apparently the original asian voice cast was changed due to their " thick accents " . Key Luke ( who voiced Mr. Chan ) was the only chinese actor to play the title character in any onscreen adaptation of Charlie Chan. There was indeed controversy surrounding this series but it was still nice to see people of color leading a television series and be capable of doing the same things that Fred , Daphne , Velma , and Shaggy did .
3. Harlem Globetrotters ( 1970 )
This famous NYC based basketball team balled so hard they got their own animated series and even made an appearance on Scooby Doo. Unlike the many Scooby Doo clones they normally settled things by playing basketball.
4. Devlin ( 1974 )
This series drew inspiration from the Evil Knievel craze and was a little more serious in tone . This series displayed some awesome sibling bonding between Ernie , Tod , and Sandy.
5. Clue Club ( 1976 )
This series took the place of Scooby Doo - Where Are You ? which was moving to another network. You can't question the similarities between the two series however Clue Club had better character designs and animation.
* Bonus *
A Pup Named Scooby Doo ( 1988 )
This is the 8th Scooby Doo incarnation . The series featured our favorite mystery gang as little kids , the character personalities differed from their early incarnations however they were all very likable . Great animation and catchy songs in each episode , A Pup Named Scooby Doo has a decent legacy despite being one of the most underrated series in the Scooby Doo Universe .
