Yesterday we got confirmation that Marvel and Disney was going a head with plans to release Captain America 3 in the original May 6, 2016 release date that they had earmarked for an unnamed movie. This set us up for what will be a showdown of titans as Warner Brothers’ Batman Vs Superman movie has also moved into the slot after being pushed back from July of 2015. Someone is going to flinch, right? It doesn’t seem to be Marvel with them confirming as well as having the release date first. So it would seem as if Warner Brothers will have to be the one to move.
Wrong. Bloomberg ran a piece about the potential show down of superhero movie giants and have quoted president of domestic distribution for Warner Brothers, Dan Fellman as saying at this time, they don’t plan to move Batman Vs. Superman. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16. “However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for Batman vs. Superman,” he said. Disney had no comment on the potential showdown.
The release day spat has had Marvel and DC fans at each others throats as to who should move. For me it’s surprising that WB picked the spot to begin with knowing that Marvel could put a heavy hitter, like Captain America, in the spot. I believe that Batman Vs Superman will win the battle, but will it cost DC/WB the war? Only time will tell, and we will keep you up to date with info regarding the release date right here at Comic Book Therapy.
