Like most anime, the food animated in Sailor Moon is more than a little appealing to look at. With several episodes devoted solely to food, here's a list of my own personal fave moments in Sailor Moon where FOOD was the standout. Please list your own favourite own moments in the comments!
10.) COOKIE POWER
The beginning of the SuperS movie has the girls bake cookies, with Chibiusa showing that she's inherited her mother's cooking skills, as her horrid looking cookies taste delicious. These cookies are used in the final battle to strengthen Sailor Moon and Peruru's courage 100 fold - a scene that's a little more cheesy than sweet, perhaps.
9.) SWEET DEAL
The lackluster monsters in the fifth season still produced one particularly zany fight, where Sailor Chef tries to make nice with Eternal Sailor Moon by essentially bribing her with a chocolate cake. Aside from pointing out it's dangerous to eat food from an enemy, Sailor Jupiter notes that Usagi just ate a while ago. This isn't a problem though, as Usagi has a separate stomach for desserts.
8.) HUNGER PAINS
This is the rare occasion that the humour in the English dub wins out over the Japanese version. Serena's incredibly whiny voice as she laments Amy's finished lunch works wonder, and Amy's consolation - giving her some orange juice for sustenance - is pretty darn funny.
7.) FIRE SOUL!
The flower viewing festivities in this episode are full of delicious looking food, and we see Usagi compare her homemade, if unattractive, rice balls, to Rei's purchased fast food meal. Insulted over Rei's conclusion, Usagi gets back at her by giving her a sandwich laced with hot mustard.
6.) UGLY FRIED RICE
The victim-of-the-day here is a literal starving artist, who's willing to put up with hunger to strive towards his dream of only painting the truth. Usagi and Chibiusa take him and give him a meal of Usagi's less than stellar looking fried rice. Though it could be because he hadn't eaten in 3 days, Kamoi gobbles it up and gives the utmost gratitude.
5.) TEA CEREMONY ETIQUETTE
This slapstick heavy episode features the dos and don'ts of the Japanese tea ceremony. Chibiusa learns to be a little more formal in how to eat sweet dango; though this doesn't stop her from pinching the heck out of Usagi for her snickering.
4.) BENTO OF FRIENDSHIP
Though Usagi initial drive to befriend Makoto was due to her scrumptious looking lunchbox, the sharing of good food cements the friendship between the girls. The supposedly violent school outsider isn't so scary when they're offering you a delicious homemade rice ball.
3.) COOKING LESSON 101
In preparation for Chibiusa's school curry cooking party, Usagi and the girls take a crash course in curry preparation from Makoto. Minako's enthusiastic yet clumsy nature takes over, and she mistakes a piece of carrot she chops as the severed tip of her finger. Hilarity ensues.
2.) DOESN'T TASTE LIKE GARBAGE
The final test for Usagi is to make a palatable curry, lest she embarrass Chibiusa at school. The result, after making an absolute mess n the kitchen, is something that looks less than edible, yet turns out to taste great. The uglier Usagi's food is, the tastier!
1.) GET IN MY BELLY
The monster in this episode had the power to encase anyone in a sweet prison, and could turn objects into straight up confections. Sailor Mercury's water powers melt this sugary Droid.
