Is hot actor Johnny Depp about to enter into matrimonial sanctity with his lovely, puckish French girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis?

That's what locals say in Plan de la Tour, a 12th-Century village near St.-Tropez in the south of France, where the couple, who've been going steady for eight years, own a $2-million villa.

It's a bit of a surprise, since Depp's often denied he's interested in the M-word. "It would be a shame to ruin her last name," he quipped to OK! magazine last year. "It's so perfect. It would be such a drag to stick her with Paradis-Depp."


Lohan gets serious

America's freckled darling, Lindsay Lohan, 20, has thrown off her party-girl mask to reveal the Inner Lindsay: Political Guru.

Are we jesting? Only partially.

The BBC reports that Lohan has been in Venice in support of her latest in a string of grown-up films, "Bobby," a "Rashomon"-esque film that tells the story of the '68 assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy in Los Angeles from the perspectives of 22 people. The actress, who costars with Sir Anthony Hopkins, Martin Sheen and Sharon Stone, said she's been inspired by the Emilio Estevez-directed film.

"For people of my generation, I think it's important to bring awareness of a great leader," she said.

Lohan says she has always been political: "I feel I have always been somewhat politically engaged." Guess that means she has dated a politician somewhere along the way.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember an interview with him where he said that he'd offered and she shot him down. I could be completely thinking of someone else, though.

But I agree. There's nothing wrong with not getting married. They're obviously happy together. You don't need a piece of paper to qualify your attachment.

I'm pretty sure he was just joking. Probably to deflect the question and move on to something that might matter and might be any of anyone's business. I say bravo to them for not feeling the need to marry. But Johnny has said that if Vanessa ever wants to, he's willing.
