SUNRISE host Samatha Armytrage has struck up a romance with Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet.
The Sunday Telegraph can reveal the unlikely pair are currently attempting a long-distance relationship after hitting it off during Modern Family’s Australian location shoot last month, with their dalliance culminating in a five-hour lunch at Matt Moran’s famed Chiswick restaurant.
Interestingly it was Armytage who initiated contact with a rival stable star by tweeting a message on February 21 that read; “I know I sound like a complete groupie ... But I REALLY want to meet @ericstonestreet while he’s in Australia.”
Within minutes Stonestreet fired back the succinct reply; “Let’s organise this.”
A Ten insider later confirmed to The Sunday Telegraph that Stonestreet had already spied Armytage on Sunrise having arrived in town four days prior.
“It was weird because he had actually seen Sam and made a comment about her ... about her being attractive,” said the onset source.
Stonestreet, who spends several weeks in the Harbour City every year due to his commercial obligations with retail chain Big W, then proceeded to extend his stay in Sydney by two days so that he could whisk Armytage to Chiswick for their first date.
Several diners confirmed the duo enjoyed share plates washed down with espresso martinis during what ultimately stretched into a five-hour lunch.
Moran’s camp, too, confirmed the attendance of the pair who largely managed to evade the lenses of Sydney’s roving paparazzi as their lunch coincided with the media-heavy memorial held for the late TV presenter Charlotte Dawson.
And The Sunday Telegraph can reveal the romance hasn’t stopped there.
It’s understood Armytage and Stonestreet are in regular contract and are currently enjoying a long-distance flirtation.
“There is definitely potential for a relationship because Eric travels here so often,” said an Aussie associate of the actor who asked not to be named.
Contacted this week Armytage confirmed she had shared a lunch with Stonestreet however the 37-year-old declined to elaborate on the new romance.
Stonestreet’s New York rep Betsy Berg, of high-powered stable The Agency Group, also declined to comment.
Armytage, meanwhile, is not the first blonde Australian beauty to catch the eye of the actor who plays gay dad Cameron Tucker in Ten’s hit comedy.
Prior to Armytage, Stonestreet briefly dated Dancing With The Stars judge Kym Johnson.
Armytage, too, has been associated with other high profile men — none more so than when she declined a date from One Direction lothario Harry Styles during the group’s tour here in October last year.
However her most recent serious relationship was with Sydney hotelier Peter DeAngelis which ended in 2012.
Fair shake of the source bottle.
