It was one of last year's most anticipated albums, but fans failing to turn up at digital retail, and in stores, led Lady Gaga's "ARTPOP" to become an art flop. The album's failure has not only hit Lady Gaga hard, it has had a negative effect on Universal's fourth quarter report.

"Lady Gaga’s “ARTPop” album last fall certainly didn’t give Universal Music Group any pop. Gaga’s fourth-quarter flop helped cut Universal’s revenue in the period 9.3 percent, the company said in a report Tuesday," reports the NY Post. "The tough quarter cut profits for the year by 2.9 percent, to $702 million (511 million euros).'

While Gaga's album, led by the singles "Applause" and "Do What U Want," did not fair as well as one might have hoped, Universal did pull ahead with Eminem and Katy Perry, whose albums performed well. Perry also did extremely well with "Roar" and the recent chart topper "Dark Horse."

In related news, Lady Gaga is not letting this news damper her year. She has just announced plans to tour Australia.

Gaga will play four dates in Australia in August, including an August 20th date at Perth Arena.

She will then visit Rod Laver Arena on August 23 (in Melbourne); the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on August 26 and the Allphones Arena (in Sydney) on August 30.

Gaga's global ARTPOP Ball Tour begins May 4 in Fort Lauderdale.
