Actor Chris Evans says he doesn't drive fast, but is honored to be 500 starter
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- At first glance, actor Chris Evans is an unusual choice for Daytona 500 grand marshal.
"I don't even drive that fast," Evans said Sunday morning in the hours before the start of the 56th Great American Race.
Evans is the star of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a Marvel movie scheduled to be released April 4.
Before today's race, Evans will give the "Drivers, start your engines" command.
"I'm a little nervous about it now," Evans said. "You think, 'I'll go to NASCAR and say these things.' Then you show up and realize how important it is to so many people. It's an honor. I'm a little intimidated at this point.
"I understand why this has such a following. It really is an amazing thing."
