Teen Wolf season 3, episode 19, titled “Letharia Vulpina,” begins with Deaton showing up at the house of someone we’ve never met before. He’s Japanese, and he owns a wolf who is gravely ill. Deaton needs to know what the wolf consumed in order to treat him, so he’s led out into the garden and is shown a species of moss that could be the culprit.

Deaton explains that the moss is called letharia vulpina and that it is quite toxic to a wolf, especially if it is tainted with the blood of a nogitsune. We find out that the man is the son of the nogitsune we saw in a flashback a few episodes ago, and he pulls a gun on the vet. Deaton, however, is one step ahead of him, and says he has already given him a paralytic toxin from a kanima, which is also what he used to make the wolf sick.

Back at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital, the live wire wreaks havoc. As the street is flooded with water, it’s electrified and several people are injured, including Isaac, who is now not breathing. Kira grabs the wire and stops it from harming anyone else. Scott looks on in awe.

Isaac is taken to the hospital, and the timeline jumps ahead just a bit. Stiles has now been missing for 48 hours, and Isaac is still in the hospital. The sheriff gets a text from Stiles telling him he’s okay and not to look for him. Meanwhile, McCall seems to know who Katashi is, the man we met earlier that told Chris Argent about the oni and the nogitsune.

Melissa sneaks Allison and Scott into Isaac’s room. Scott tries to heal him, but he can’t. He only helps with the pain a little bit before he can’t take the pain himself anymore. Back at school, Scott talks to Kira and learns that the reason why the nogitsune is doing all of this is probably because it was extremely offended. But by who?

In the locker room, Scott, Aiden, and Ethan hear one of Chris Argent’s emitters. They go down to the basement and find that Stiles has it. Stiles tries to explain himself, but the twins attack him. It’s only through Scott’s Alpha powers that he’s able to put the other werewolves in their place.

Stiles says he doesn’t know what he’s been up to for the past few days, and he tells them he has a bag of equipment and a bunch of maps. It looks like he was planning something even bigger than what happened at the hospital.

Lydia notices Peter is talking to her mother at school, lying about who he is and why he’s there. But that’s not the most important thing on our minds right now, unfortunately. Chris finds that someone has broken into his house. It’s Derek, who says Chris left one of his emitters in his loft.

Chris denies it, and notices that someone has left the money from the transaction with Katashi in his office. McCall uses that time to stroll in and tell them that Katashi is dead, and he thinks Derek and Chris are the culprits.

Back on the cross country trail, Stiles, Scott, and the twins are trying to stop everyone before someone gets hurt, presumably at the hands of Stiles when he was taken over by the nogitsune. Unfortunately, Coach trips a wire and is shot in the stomach with an arrow.

Lydia and Allison go to Derek’s loft to find Peter. Allison warns Lydia it’s not a good idea (and we agree), but Lydia goes through with it, wanting to know how to use her powers. Peter tells her that his bite brought her powers out, and that her scream only drowns everything else out so she can hear what’s important.

Stiles is reunited with his dad, but Scott and the twins find wrapping paper in his Jeep, and we’re led to believe he has planted a bomb. That bomb is supposedly on a bus, and who happens to find it but Jared, our favorite cross country runner with a weak stomach.

Teen Wolf Season 3 Episode 19 Letharia Vulpina Lydia

Back at Derek’s loft, Peter and Allison can’t help but antagonize each other. Lydia is done with both of them, and throws the claws into the wall. She hears voices, and that’s when she drops the bomb to Peter: “You’re not just an uncle.”

In the school, Mrs. and Mr. Yukimura talk about the oni and the nogitsune, and worry over what they’re going to do next. We learn that Mrs. Yukimura is sacrificing each of her nine tails in turn in order to create the oni and stop the nogitsune. And she’s willing to give up her life for it.

Parrish seems to be army-trained and can handle figuring out if the present is a bomb. He clips the ribbon, and finds there’s no explosive inside. However, Sheriff Stilinski’s name plaque is, and everyone realizes that’s where the real bomb is. And although there’s plenty of bad blood between them, when the bomb goes off, Derek protects Chris from the blast.

Scott shows up to the crime scene with Stiles and continues to heal people. Kira warns them that the oni are coming, and Scott tells them they have to get the the vet clinic in order to keep Stiles safe. Meanwhile, the bombs keep dropping, and we learn that Malia is actually Peter’s daughter.

At the clinic, the oni show up. Kira pulls out her inner badass and fights them off with Scott, but when Scott is distracted, he’s stabbed through the stomach one of their swords. Ushering them inside, Stiles keeps up the ruse for a few seconds longer before knocking Kira out and twisting the sword in Scott’s gut.

Luckily for Scott, but unluckily for Stiles, that’s when Deaton shows up and injects Stiles with letharia vulpina. He’s poisoned, but he’s not dead. “Not yet,” Deaton says.
