54-year-old has decided that the American series needs a break in his absence
The US X Factor will be 'rested' following Simon Cowell's decision to return as head judge to the UK version of the talent show.
TV bosses across the pond wanted the music mogul to remain on board with the Stateside show and fly between LA and London.
But Cowell told them he was committed to the UK version and declined their offer - and the 54-year-old has decided that the American series needs a break in his absence.
A source told the Daily Mirror: "Simon made the decision to sign up to UK X factor in November.
"As a result, he has now chosen to rest the US show despite FOX wanting him to continue and do both.
"Because of his personal change in circumstances and impending fatherhood, he can't be commuting back and forth to LA.
"Instead he will split his time with Lauren between London and New York, where her family is based.
"This also allows him to give the UK version his full focus and attention."
