What’s Fashion Week without one of Target’s blockbuster collaboration launches? The typical hysteria surrounding the occasion hit midtown last night as a massive line formed outside Gotham Hall, where the retailer unveiled its latest partnership with British label Peter Pilotto. Inside, models in the brand’s signature loud prints and sculptural shapes walked a circular mirrored catwalk toPharrell’s “Happy”—repeated so many times it became a sort of deranged anthem to the many attendees waiting in line for upward of an hour to buy the clothes. One person, at least, found it to be an accurate chorus for the collection. “I love the patterns, they make me happy!” said Diane Kruger, who wore a red floral skirt and shirt from the line. “It’s outside the box for me, because naturally I tend [to veer] toward more classic stuff. But I feel bold and sexy and fun.” She paired her outfit with Charlotte Olympia’s Walk of Fame clutch. “I thought it might be the only time I’d get my name on a Hollywood star,” she quipped. (Or not—the actress is off to the Berlin International Film Festival, where she has two much-anticipated films premiering.)
Design duo Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos were certainly feeling happy, and with good reason. And, because this is the first time that Target will sell parts of its designer collaboration on Net-a-Porter. Taking full advantage of the event, they made a point of chatting with customers waiting in line, and later were spotted dancing with Natalie Joos, and greeting Dree Hemingway, Alexa Chung, and Taylor Schilling, who walked the red carpet with them.
The collection debuts on February 9th on selected targets, (STORE LIST HERE)
