A certain Game of Thrones actor is getting boosted to series-regular status.
Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Daenerys Targaryen’s wary and clever translator Missandei last season, will be bumped to a series regular assuming the fantasy hit gets a fifth season (which seems like a pretty safe bet). (OP: Iain Glen said in an interview with The Big Issue that all the Season 5 scripts were already written).
For the upcoming fourth season, her character is described as “a former slave with a gift for languages who becomes Daenerys’ confidant and trusted adviser.” Emmanuel has also landed a role in the upcoming Fast & Furious 7.
The promotion follows a similar recent boost for another actor playing a character from Dany’s circle — Michiel Huisman, the actor taking over the role of the charming warrior Daario Naharis, will likewise be elevated to a series regular in a presumed fifth season.
Going into this season, Thrones has 29 series regular characters, likely the most on television, a testament to its ambitious world-building storytelling. Thrones returns to HBO on April 6.
