Alex Kapranos apologises to Pharrell after accusing him of 'borrowing' Franz Ferdinand riff

Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos has apologised to Pharrell Williams after accusing him of "borrowing" a riff from him.

The frontman tweeted the video to the producer's new track with Paloma Faith, 'Can't Rely On You', last week (January 31) – watch it below. Discussing the song, which has a riff running throughout not dissimilar to that of Franz Ferdinand's 2004 single 'Take Me Out', Kapranos wrote: "Hey @Pharrell - I love your tunes. If you want to borrow a riff, just ask... "

Yesterday (January 3), the singer apologised for the comment, tweeting: "@Pharrell Sometimes I forget how easily things can get exaggerated on here. I know you didn't borrow any riffs. Sorry for all the press BS."

Pharrell has yet to respond.
