Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley is ringing in the New Year a little lighter and a little leaner. The reality star and TV talk show host is the latest starlet to make the big chop!
Now this chop isn't just for a chic new 'do. Like many naturalistas who have transitioned from straight hair to their natural texture, Tamera decided to trim her tresses due to heat damage that had left her hair no longer at its healthiest. The legendary Sister, Sister star, who is now a stunning 35-year old new mom, shared her reasoning behind the cut with fans via social media:
"It all began when a hair stylist used a marcel HOT IRON on my hair and ruined it," the actress began explaining. "I cried, but it's only made me appreciate the hair I was born with. Ladies embrace your curls," Tamera said to caption a photo of her heat-damaged locks, adding that it was now the beginnings of her curly hair journey. "It starts with a cut! You don't always have to do a big chop! Like me, I'm doing it gradually. Learn to love your natural hair. Thanks @shaiamiel for mine:) I'll post transition hair styles soon:)"
The new mom posted a few photos of her new cut which received rave reviews from fans who love her new look. Similar to fellow Hollywood actress, Jennifer Lawrence, Tamera's fabulous cut is the happy result of putting their once long hair, under too much stress. Tamera's new cut is a celebration of short hair divas everywhere, but also serves as a warning to ladies looking to hold onto their long-hair-don't-care style. If you wanna keep that length, you gotta ditch the heat!
As tempting as the simplicity of a little heat can be to make hair more manageable, resist the urge to use this as your daily styling remedy. Heat is the nemesis of any crown, no matter what your texture. Whether pressing hair or innocently picking up a blow dryer after you wash it, the heat from these tools is sucking out all the moisture from your hair shaft. You've been warned!

Katy Perry, 29, had one of the best looks of the night, channeling old Hollywood glamour and Elizabeth Taylor. We have the details on her look from her glam squad and her amazing hair is actually more attainable than you might think! Find out how to get her hot look below.
Celebrity hairstylist Renato Campora created Katy’s awe-inspiring ‘do. He breaks down the look right here:
“Katy wanted to wear her hair up and I was inspired by the soft, romantic look of her dress. First I sprayed her hair with the Herbal Essences Naked Sheer Shine Mist and then blew it out to a sleek, polished finish. Once her hair was dry, I pulled it into a tight, high ponytail.
To add more volume and texture to the ponytail, I sprayed the Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo throughout the length of her hair. Then I twisted the ponytail and wrapped it around the base of her hair to create the crown. I secured the crown with bobby pins and misted the hair with the Herbal Essences Naked Flexible Hold Spritzer to polish her look and set her style in place.”
