Could Gilderoy Lockhart Be Back For Another 'Harry Potter' Charm-Fest?

Gilderoy Lockhart may have been a fraud in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," but his so-called adventures with dark creatures were the stuff of legends.

Naturally, we'd love to see the deliciously narcissistic wizard return in J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" spinoff, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," when it hits theaters. And while that day may be far, far away, we can still speculate, right?

MTV News caught up with Kenneth Branagh, currently promoting his action thriller "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," and asked whether he'd be interested in donning the old cloak again as Lockhart.

Will Kenneth Branagh Be A Part Of The 'Harry Potter' Prequel?

"If they could use really interesting techniques to make me look a little younger, like, about 100 years younger, that would maybe be a good thing," the 53-year-old said with a chuckle. "It will be fascinating to see how that works out."

Branagh, like the rest of us, is in the dark when it comes to Rowling's script. But if duty calls, he says, "they have my number."

Branagh pulls double duty in "Jack Ryan" as both the film's director and villain. His last big-screen endeavor, 2011's "Thor," made international superstars out of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, but its 2013 sequel found "Game of Thrones" and "Mad Men" director Alan Taylor at the helm.

"I have not seen the film," he confessed to MTV News, "but I will see the film, of course."

Looking back fondly at this time in the Marvel-verse, Branagh is open to the idea of one day returning.

"I had a great time at Marvel," he said. "Seeing both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston develop into these two major movie stars is really a great pleasure to have been a tiny part of it. I had a wonderful time doing that movie and I'm very proud of what it was part of."

Up next for Branagh: Disney's live-action version of "Cinderella," starring "Downton Abbey's" Lily James and "Game of Thrones" alum Richard Madden as the fairytale couple. Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and Stellan Skarsgard also star in the film.

"Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" opens in U.S. theaters on January 17.
