New Superman vs. Batman Details Revealed

2013 closed out with many big rumors swirling around the Man of Steel sequel - which is still tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman - but in 2014 production will actually get underway on director Zack Snyder’s ambitious buildup of the DC movie universe.

Today we have some initial details on the Batman vs. Superman production, which is gearing up for a stint filming in and around the Detroit, Michigan area. That info includes where (and what) in Michigan will be utilized for the film, as well as some initial figures on the budget that Warner Bros. has set for the movie.

The Inquisitr reports on the details of the BvsS Michigan shoot, which should bringing much needed revenue and job opportunities to the city of Detroit, whose economy is failing at the moment. Apparently there will be a combination of soundstage work at the Michigan Motion Pictures Studios in Pontiac, as well as exterior work being done in and around the Detroit streets, which could serve as the new Gotham City or new areas of Metropolis (or something else entirely, we don’t know yet).

The other aspect of the report worth mentioning is that Michigan Film Office PR Manager Michelle Grinnell claims that the budget for the film is set at $131 million, the most expensive production to date in the state. Of course, the initial report on the shoot in Michigan claimed that Warner Bros. agreed to that location in part because of “an incentive of $35 million on $131 million of projected in-state expenditures.” In other words: it’s unclear if $131 million is the total production budget, or simply the portion attached to the Michigan shoot – and of course, that figure does NOT include reshoots or post-production or marketing costs. With the way things are building up, a $200+ million movie is what we would expect, as the studio will likely not be shy about chasing that coveted billion-dollar box office.

While this info about the production is the only real confirmed info we’ve had since the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, in my opinion it’s really more fun to focus on the rumor side of things, where discussion is much more lively:

Will Denzel Washington be playing Lex Luthor?
Is Dwayne Johnson playing Green Lantern or Cyborg?
Will more unorthodox casting choices like Joaquin Phoenix or Adam Driver really happen?
Are secondary characters like Cyborg or Doomsday in the film?
What will Superman’s new costume be?
What will Batman’s new costume be?

Yeah, to all those who claim they are SO SICK of hearing endless rumors? The rumors are definitely more fun than the facts, at this point. We’ll see what happens as production gets underway in Michigan.

ONTD, do you think this movie will flop? I think it will make more than MoS just because of Batman appearing but it won't touch Avengers' status. And certainly Affleck won't be better than Keaton.

Hmmm I think the more details come out the less likely it is to flop

It will perform well but that won't stop people from criticizing , kinda like what happened with the first Wolverine movie

but yeah once again it's awesome being a Marvel stan because their movies are so much better
boweeko 4th-Jan-2014 07:42 pm (UTC)
Marvel is so fun which is what I want from a comic book movie

this shit..just isn't fun at all
brucelynn 4th-Jan-2014 07:43 pm (UTC)
mte Marvel Studios knows what the fans like to see and they know how to enhance characters

That is why Ant Man and Guardians of The Galaxy are not gonna flop
faunyoudork 4th-Jan-2014 08:05 pm (UTC)
marvel is fun with their films! which sucks for me as a dc fan lol
marvel isnt where my heart is at so the fun is mindless and disconnected for me
jjjdgergfer 5th-Jan-2014 02:33 am (UTC)
I like actor supeman, but I don't like the new superman
grande_latte 4th-Jan-2014 07:40 pm (UTC)
the budget for the film is set at $131 million,

sorry but with Ben and dullass Henry this movie will FLOP. the Avengers 2 will wipe the floor with these 2 and its going to be an utter embarrassment.

however if it were Senor Bale it'd be a different story cuz those movies were AMAZING
brucelynn 4th-Jan-2014 07:41 pm (UTC)
I can't wait for Age of Ultron to slllaaayyyyyyyyyyy
grande_latte 4th-Jan-2014 07:44 pm (UTC)
me neither! I April can't come fast enough for Captain America and I want to fast forward 2014 just so that I can finally see age of ultron that shit will be so damn epic
boweeko 4th-Jan-2014 07:47 pm (UTC)

but I am slightly worried about the Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch mess
thejoker 5th-Jan-2014 07:01 am (UTC)
Still bitter over the fact that it won't merge with Bale!Batman's universe.
bigbranch 4th-Jan-2014 07:40 pm (UTC)
it'll probably be successful, but i'm not interested in seeing this movie at all tbh
randommakings 4th-Jan-2014 07:40 pm (UTC)
I'm placing all bets on this being a MESS

boweeko 4th-Jan-2014 07:41 pm (UTC)
ugh I am not here for this movie at all

Man of Steel pissed me off so much so this I do not want
brucelynn 4th-Jan-2014 07:42 pm (UTC)
The fact that they had to change the tone of Superman in order to put butts in seats is very telling

trumpydoesmagic 4th-Jan-2014 07:49 pm (UTC)
How did they change the tone tho?
grande_latte 4th-Jan-2014 07:43 pm (UTC)
it was good until you got to the damn fight scenes. those were the longest fight scenes ever and it was so boring that i feel asleep and when i woke up the fighting still wasn't done. i get it aliens are superior to humans but damn son how many times did they have to say it.
nabuch 4th-Jan-2014 07:44 pm (UTC)
At least MoS had awesome Faora... BvS will probably have Gal but in cameo - maybe 5 minutes long if we are lucky.
abortions 4th-Jan-2014 07:57 pm (UTC)
man of steel was so damn boring
grande_latte 4th-Jan-2014 07:42 pm (UTC)
I think it will make more than MoS just because of Batman appearin

op i disagree. if it were Bale then yes but its Affleck and after Daredevil its a no when it comes to him being superheroes so the whole Batman being in the movie is a YESS but when with Affleck as Batman is a DEAR GOD NO
nabuch 4th-Jan-2014 07:46 pm (UTC)
I agree with you regarding Bale being superior to Bale but I still think many, many people will go to see this movie just out of curiosity of seeing new and controversial actor playing such iconic role as Batman. There are also die-hard stans and those who will be content just with enough actions sequences of Supes and Bat kicking each other asses.
prophecypro 4th-Jan-2014 09:56 pm (UTC)
I love Bale and was down with the Bale Dammitt internet stans whol lobbied for him to be Batman back in 2002/2003 but he caught he so much hate by the end cause of the voice, I dont think he some magic elixir who can come out of element. I actually think Affleck will take it as a challenge and do his best. He's great when in the right role
thejoker 5th-Jan-2014 07:05 am (UTC)
Nah, I think lots of people will go to hate-watch Affleck

I hope they wait for screeners instead
placentipede 4th-Jan-2014 07:43 pm (UTC)
the question is will it suck as much as man of steel
remielerichsen 4th-Jan-2014 07:43 pm (UTC)
It'll obviously make money and be considered a blockbuster, but it will probably suck like Man of Steel did (for me). Cavill's got the Taylor Kitsch virus and everything he's in will be a flop. This makes me sad to say cause I was in love with him in his Tudor days.
abortions 4th-Jan-2014 07:58 pm (UTC)
did MoS flop? I thoughts it was successful?

what else has cavill been in besides the Tudors tho
ellaellaeheheh 4th-Jan-2014 08:15 pm (UTC)
but I don't think people actually watched it
remielerichsen 4th-Jan-2014 08:29 pm (UTC)
It wasn't a flop blockbuster-wise cause it's a genre film with a huge origin fanbase. But compared to other superhero films recently, it lists at the bottom for me.

Immortals and The Cold Light of Day were horrible films.
milkradio 4th-Jan-2014 08:43 pm (UTC)
He was in Blood Creek, that mess Tristan + Isolde, I Capture the Castle, and had a small part in Stardust (where I didn't recognize him at ALL).
wauwy 4th-Jan-2014 10:09 pm (UTC)
It was only successful because of its HUGE (like 70%) international take, which is fine with WB.

ETA: oh, my bad, it was actually more like 55%.

I'd like to see Gal in person, but I don't know if I'll have time to get up to Detroit.

Man of steel was soooo boring but Henry was so hot though
reasontorhyme 4th-Jan-2014 07:45 pm (UTC)
Just let Gal slay the entire movie and it really just ended up being a movie about how much of a flawless bitch Wonderwoman is.

Not here for this dark, human problem issues. If you demand an excellent boss, be an excellent boss.

ONTD, do you think this movie will flop?

Idk but I find myself giving less and less of a fuck about anything DC and nu52 after MoS. I always make mine Marvel but I grew up on the Justice League and Superfriends just like the rest of the world and I always want it to do well.

Affleck in skin-tight leathers again? Always HFT.
chikntetrazzini 4th-Jan-2014 07:46 pm (UTC)
Not even Henry Cavill could get me to go to Detroit.
lvashkov 4th-Jan-2014 08:07 pm (UTC)
it's mostly shooting in downtown detroit which is a beautiful city
elvenqueen86 4th-Jan-2014 08:49 pm (UTC)
Downtown Detroit is actually rather nice. Just don't trust your GPS if it takes you down some residential side streets...
ace_kay 4th-Jan-2014 07:48 pm (UTC)
I finally saw Man of Steel last week and I was surprised at how much I didn't hate it.
hermione_vader 4th-Jan-2014 09:32 pm (UTC)
That's what I thought when I saw it in the cheap theatre in August. I actually enjoyed it a lot, but I admit that the fight scenes were too long and the damage to Metropolis was far too much.
tinkerbell1700 5th-Jan-2014 01:38 am (UTC)
I love it, but I def. thought the destruction was OTT. They could have toned down that world engine (or whatever it was called) a lot and still gotten the point across.
