One Direction 2014 tour will top $1 billion

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Huge ticket sales for next year's Where We Are stadium tour have put them on track to surpass rock gods U2 and The Rolling Stones by becoming the first act to break the billion dollar mark (£610million) in a single year.

If that wasn't enough, 1D are also set to eclipse U2's record for average tour attendance which stands at 66,110 for their 2009-2011, 110-show 360° Tour.

U2 and the Stones currently hold the top two spots for onthe-road earnings, raking in £467million and £341million for their 360° and Bigger Bang tours.

Harry, Louis, Liam, Zayn and Niall already have 88 dates booked for 2014 at some of the biggest stadiums in Europe, South America and the US.

Venues that hold 80,000 plus concertgoers have already sold out across the US, as have others across South America and Europe.

A spokesman for the band in the US told Rehab: "Demand was so enormous for Where We Are tickets that 21 American dates had to be added to the original schedule.

"It is absolutely conceivable that still more could be squeezed in before the end of 2014 but that will ultimately be up to the band and its management.

"Until now we hadn't even thought in terms of breaking records.

"But it would be amazing for 1D to climb to the very top of the tour league so early in the group's career. That would be a phenomenal testament to the loyalty and support of their fans."

Last month's release of Midnight Memories saw 1D become the only British band ever to have their first three albums debut at No.1 in the US charts.

The boys are also in a two-horse race with Robbie Williams to land the Christmas No.1 album.
money :(

Wow. Lmaooo from fetus's to grown men with lots of bankable power. Bless them.
sumlikeithaute 22nd-Dec-2013 05:20 pm (UTC)

allinred 22nd-Dec-2013 03:43 pm (UTC)
How much of that will they be getting?
aquaecolore 22nd-Dec-2013 03:47 pm (UTC)
pretty sure they're at a point they can demand enough for themselves
beatlesluv 22nd-Dec-2013 04:13 pm (UTC)
Probably a good chunk. Harry's father deals in money for a living, and they definitely have the power to speak up for themselves.
whitegirlmob 22nd-Dec-2013 03:45 pm (UTC)
Whoa, I'm impressed by this. It seems like they put absolutely no money into their actual shows though, but still this is incredible. I don't think they're really banking on 1D having a long career though. That last highlighted paragraph is just crazy talk tbh
saintvlas22 22nd-Dec-2013 04:05 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I bet they're getting higher than average returns because they don't have giant props and intricate stages and elaborate sets and numerous expensive costumes. It's also clear none of that money went into hiring a dance choreographer.
dolce_piccante 22nd-Dec-2013 08:44 pm (UTC)
that's what i was thinking. my fav band muse always say they basically break even when touring, because they put so much into the show.
jessi_cola 23rd-Dec-2013 01:36 am (UTC)
What's surprising is that they do have a "choreographer" though. He was featured in the film - best/easiest job ever t b h
boweeko 22nd-Dec-2013 03:48 pm (UTC)
when do you think their fame will be over? I'll give them another 2 years I think and then one of them will leave the group
2morrowww 22nd-Dec-2013 03:50 pm (UTC)
well they have a contract for two more years/albums and then they'll probably take a long break who knows what after
breakingbed 22nd-Dec-2013 04:04 pm (UTC)
their next album will be the start of their decline IMO. idk, Justin Bieber's career needs to collapse completely, and then theirs will follow. he's been teetering on the edge of the abyss for ages now, i don't know what's taking so long for this empire to come crumbling down. it should have been dust by now.
a_wa 22nd-Dec-2013 09:41 pm (UTC)
People said that same thing about this album. :P
beatlesluv 22nd-Dec-2013 04:14 pm (UTC)
Probably in 3 or 4 years honestly. Because they'll want to take a break and do other things I think.
cadaver11 22nd-Dec-2013 08:12 pm (UTC)
1.5 years
lolzerz 22nd-Dec-2013 08:30 pm (UTC)
isnt the curse of the boyband to last only 5 years?
punkylana 22nd-Dec-2013 10:30 pm (UTC)

mmartymcfly 22nd-Dec-2013 03:55 pm (UTC)

valerieau 22nd-Dec-2013 05:08 pm (UTC)
didn't they just tour australia for an entire month..
punkylana 22nd-Dec-2013 10:31 pm (UTC)
mmartymcfly 23rd-Dec-2013 09:42 am (UTC)
yeah but i had no money then lol
bloolikejazz 22nd-Dec-2013 08:10 pm (UTC)
whoa your icon... it's so... beautiful
heartswt 23rd-Dec-2013 02:21 am (UTC)
SAME. At this rate, they'll be touring here in December.
breakingbed 22nd-Dec-2013 03:59 pm (UTC)
lol yeah okay. come back to me when you can stop using future tense to write this bullshit article.
backincharge 22nd-Dec-2013 04:00 pm (UTC)
YASSSS! They better pay for Leona's promo and her next album!

No wonder why Simon has been doing so much for her lately and splurged on fantastic new management.
saintvlas22 22nd-Dec-2013 04:07 pm (UTC)
I think they'll do well, but a billion is pushing it. The Spice Girls had a similar level of fame and even more hustle (all those products deals), but they cleared way less than that amount in even their peak years.
megalixer 22nd-Dec-2013 04:42 pm (UTC)
+ inflation since the late 90s, though
saintvlas22 22nd-Dec-2013 05:04 pm (UTC)
Oh, I'm talking like less than 1/5 of the amount 1D is supposed to be making, so inflation isn't that big of a factor.
milewaddraben 22nd-Dec-2013 04:12 pm (UTC)
$400 of that is from me!
beachwee 22nd-Dec-2013 04:19 pm (UTC)
They got 137 from me LOL
Was like 500 for two tix but I sold those for cheaper better seats on stub hub. Mine came from ticketmaster tho
beachwee 22nd-Dec-2013 04:17 pm (UTC)
I love them but a billion is pushing it. But they will do very well I think

Edited at 2013-12-22 04:18 pm (UTC)
saintvlas22 22nd-Dec-2013 05:06 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I agree. Shit, with the way things have been going, 2014 may be the year one of them quits.
beachwee 22nd-Dec-2013 05:33 pm (UTC)
lol not going to happen they've signed a contract that guarantees 2 more albums. ( I think ) and tbh i don't think any of them would quit rn, they still really love it.

This tour is going to do very very very well but i don't think it will quite reach a billion

Edited at 2013-12-22 05:34 pm (UTC)
cadaver11 22nd-Dec-2013 08:13 pm (UTC)
Yeah, one of them will definitely buy out their part of the contract.
j_cap06 22nd-Dec-2013 04:18 pm (UTC)
All for some motherfuckers who refuse to do a two step, play any instruments or sing decent consistently. Bitches are thirsty for dat eye candy. Shit is crayyyy
kilkenny5 22nd-Dec-2013 08:02 pm (UTC)
I don't have a problem with them and you are talking to a fan of R&B, alternative rock, and classic rock.

I never understood why these guys have to dance. That's what the JabbaWockeeZ, Alvin Ailey, the Bolshoi Ballet, and the American Ballet Theater are for.
j_cap06 22nd-Dec-2013 08:51 pm (UTC)
But they have no stage presence. The only one that has an ounce of stage presence is Harry and that's not much. They don't do shit. They bore the fuck out of me. I'm not saying they have to be Beyonce but these kids don't even try. There live vocals are embarrassing.
kerrigwen 22nd-Dec-2013 09:20 pm (UTC)
niall's actually gotten pretty good at the guitar; have you seen live performances of Midnight Memories? :)
summerstar18 22nd-Dec-2013 04:26 pm (UTC)
I can't waaaaait. I just want to know the setlist, *prays for TDKAU to make it on*
That's amazing tho if they hit that mark, holy shit.

2morrowww 22nd-Dec-2013 04:29 pm (UTC)
there's like a 0,00001% of tdkau making it :(
summerstar18 22nd-Dec-2013 04:44 pm (UTC)
I know, but I'm gonna hope anyways and be eventually letdown haha :(
jessi_cola 23rd-Dec-2013 01:41 am (UTC)

_udntnome 22nd-Dec-2013 04:47 pm (UTC)
I think they'll do $100M easily (that's a 10th of a billion right?) I predict ultimate gross to be about 300-400 million.
breakingbed 22nd-Dec-2013 10:42 pm (UTC)
yup, whomever wrote this clearly has no idea how touring works. they'll make it past 100M if they're lucky and that's it. to suggest any higher just means you're talking out of your ass. there's not enough people in the world who will give you a billion dollars for one tour, or else it would have happened already by a legendary act, not these basic bitches who are just flavor of the moment.
milastalens 22nd-Dec-2013 04:57 pm (UTC)
Well, they will probably charge like $400+ for a ticket in some places...
