In honor of his 44th birthday and, no doubt, the gluttonous American holiday season, Jay Z and wife Beyoncé just embarked on a 22-day vegan quest. The Magna Carta Holy Grailwielder made the announcement on his Life+Times site, endearingly appealing to someone, anyone, who might have some insight on the topic: "Any professional vegans out there that have any great food spots please help out! Please ha." What, no "#MYLAUGH"?
So it seems the healthy couple came across a solid recommendation: Native Foods, an acclaimed 100 percent vegan eatery in Los Angeles' Westwood neighborhood. And, well, they showed up wearing animal. As the Daily Mail reports, with ample photo evidence, Jay and Bey arrived wearing, respectively, Suede Timberland boots and — wait for it — a Christopher Kane parka with an actual fur collar. What the fox say? Ow ow ow ow-ow-ow.
SPIN called Native Foods and confirmed the two did indeed visit, and that the photos are real. The resturant's representative said they happily accept all customers and that, as he understands it, the 22 Days Challenge is merely a vegan-based diet. He said he couldn't confirm whether or not Mrs. Carter-Knowles' collar was actual fox but added, "I mean, I doubt she bought it at Ross." Plus, here's the $4,930 jacket, so see for yourself.
Veganism is more than just a diet — "activism life choice" might be a better descriptor, since it's the practice of abstaining from using any animal products, in any capacity. So to claim veganhood and rock fur is kinda like starting an anarchy club to show your friends just how fed up you are with systems. Hova did seem uncomfortable with the word on his blog, referring to his "challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!!"
Whatever you want to call it, there are vegan spots where you'll get cut for wearing bits and pieces of our fuzzy-wuzzy forest friends. Word to the wise: tread lightly on the cowhide, Jay.
