One Direction star Niall Horan looks set to have his own museum opened in his home town.
Mullingar councillors want to construct a centre devoted to the singer and believe it could become a mecca for thousands of 1D fans who come to the town each year to track down Niall.
Cllr Alan Davitt told Mullingar Town Council the 20-year-old is willing to back the proposals.
He said: “We have a great resource in Niall Horan.
“He’s a great representative of Mullingar and has one of the largest Twitter followings in the world.
“His family have been very good to Mullingar and very involved locally and Niall is involved in many clubs.”
Mr Davitt also recommended the museum should be located in Mullingar’s Market House and it could include tributes to other local musicians such as Joe Dolan.
And Niall’s brother Greg yesterday told the Irish Mirror that it would be a great thing for Mullingar.
He said: “It would be fantastic if they do actually set up the Niall Horan museum, it would be great for the town.
“Niall has always been a big Mullingar man, he’s never forgotten when he comes from - so he will definitely support it. It really would be good.”
