Rebel Wilson: "I’m a big girl – I’m allowed to dish out the fat jokes"

Rebel Wilson insists she has a licence to dole out the ‘fat jokes’.

The Aussie star hit back at critics after coming under fire for making light of her own weight.

The 27-year-old rose to fame playing token ‘larger’ roles in films like Bridesmaids where she played a British Honey Boo Boo style character alongside Matt Lucas, and Pitch Perfect where she played a singer who called herself Fat Amy.

‘As long as I look like this, I’m going to make fat jokes,’ the funny girl said in retaliation to those who have criticised her for falling on size-based jokes in her career.

Earlier this year she was called out by Forbes magazine who accused her of over-using ‘fat women can be funny’ jokes while hosting the MTV Movie Awards.

‘All comedians have to use their physicality, so I use my size,’ she told Hunger magazine, talking to fashion and lifestyle magazine Hunger and continuing to be unashamed of her size.

She also expressed her hopes that other women will look up to her as an alternative pin-up to those who can’t associate with ‘classic’ Hollywood stars.

‘Before, it was all glamorous types like Kate Hudson who served as, like, the female equivalent of a “straight man”. Now it’s turning, and it’s really good,’ she told the fashion and lifestyle magazine. Read the full interview in Hunger magazine out on Thursday.
