James Mcavoy talks about Shameless US

X-Men: First Class actor James McAvoy starred in the hit British television series Shameless, which has now been adapted for the US. James has now been talking about Shameless USA, admitting that he found it so odd to watch, that he did not get past the first episode.

McAvoy was chatting with Collider, when he explained, "It's not weird, it's good, it's a good idea I think. I like stories that are told about people from parts of society that don't always have stories told about them and are funny and not just like 'Oh my God it's so hard being poor,' which is true, it is hard being poor, but its not ust unhappy, it's also vibrant and joyful."

He added, "It's weird for us, my wife and I watched the first episode and it's just weird seeing people saying the lines that we said and saying lines that weren't even in the script, stuff that we just made up on the day. Like I got my backside out at one point, like improtuly, I just improvised it and that's in the new one, very strange. So we didn't watch anymore after the first one as it was just too odd."

Shameless USA is currently in its third season, with the next episode set to air on Sunday, April 7. Meanwhile, the show has also been confirmed for a fourth season, which is set to premiere later in the year.

I'm on season 3 of the UK version and am really enjoying it. Not sure if I'll want to watch the US version at this point
hola_meg_a_cola 6th-Apr-2013 01:20 am (UTC)
It's worth it imo. The US series becomes its own.
lillylilacs 6th-Apr-2013 01:20 am (UTC)
the us version is great
pastelward 6th-Apr-2013 01:24 am (UTC)
the us version is better tbh
lanavis 6th-Apr-2013 01:32 am (UTC)
The US one will make you cry tears of cum in joy and sorrow: sometimes right after the other and even simultaneously.

US version is better tbqh
lovelyeli 6th-Apr-2013 01:43 am (UTC)
I've tried watching the UK one but it was not for me

the US one is much more dramatic and overall the acting is simply brilliant.
for_serious13 6th-Apr-2013 01:44 am (UTC)
The US one is so amazing though!
sevenbeat 6th-Apr-2013 02:02 am (UTC)
The acting is amazing in the US one
antique_faery 6th-Apr-2013 02:08 am (UTC)
The US version is far superior.
beaddddddsss 6th-Apr-2013 02:22 am (UTC)
The US version is superior and far better in every which way, so you'd be missing out. /a fan of both who even has to admit it that this is a case of the US version triumphing over the UK one

I'm on season 2 of the US one and omg its so fucking good.
msdillydally 6th-Apr-2013 08:24 am (UTC)
I gave up on the UK version after 1,5 season but I really love the US one. Which is weird, because usually I don't like the remakes.
toilet_roll 6th-Apr-2013 12:25 pm (UTC)
The US one is like way more dramatic, the acting is pretty amazing and it totally veers off the storylines of the UK one after the first season so it's pretty much it's own thing now.

I like UK one though too, it has it's own style and is a lot more light hearted, for some reason I never hated frank as much in the UK one as the US one. It does worry me that I used to watch it when I was in primary school though.
valerieau 6th-Apr-2013 03:35 pm (UTC)
the US one is so so good!
thelackoflight 6th-Apr-2013 01:18 am (UTC)
I stopped watching Shameless UK after McAvoy left. I ended up getting so invested in Fiona/Steve in the UK series and the kids only a little. It's the opposite with the US series for me. Fiona and the kids make the show amazing. I'm whatever at Steve/Jimmy.
69love_songs 6th-Apr-2013 01:25 am (UTC)
shameless uk went totally shit after fiona/steve left. i think they had one more good series, then after that....just no!
lanavis 6th-Apr-2013 01:31 am (UTC)
After series 4, it's complete shit.
I only watched episodes after that b/c I love Tittensor's body and sex scenes.
saltireflower 6th-Apr-2013 01:33 am (UTC)
I watched it for James, so when his episodes were over I couldn't be bothered.
beaddddddsss 6th-Apr-2013 02:22 am (UTC)
I care more about the characters in the US version so much. Even Kev and V have me emotionally invested.
awkwardmumbles 6th-Apr-2013 01:18 am (UTC)
i am going to be so sad when this season is over :-/ i hope fiona and her boss man aka casey's bf from greek get together
deseti_prsten 6th-Apr-2013 01:23 am (UTC)
that guy annoyed me so much on Greek (or rather the characters), but i was rooting for him and Fiona the second he showed up on screen. i haven't seen the most recent episode yet so idk if they revealed anything else about him, but i'm over jimmy. so yes, boss + fiona needs to happen.
littlemix 6th-Apr-2013 01:27 am (UTC)
lol evan chambers was such a dick. i hated him and i hated myself for being attracted to him.
pastelward 6th-Apr-2013 01:24 am (UTC)
they need to at least fuck
dolce_piccante 6th-Apr-2013 01:26 am (UTC)
i love fiona and boss guy. he's hot but also really likable, if that makes sense lol
lillylilacs 6th-Apr-2013 01:27 am (UTC)
boss guy seems so genuinely nice, and okay with all of fiona's siblings, I love it

mattthew 6th-Apr-2013 03:38 am (UTC)
i was so exceted when evan chambers showed up. i'm excited for greek alum showing up anywhere.
julietislimited 6th-Apr-2013 01:18 am (UTC)
I like the UK version more tbh.

and on a minor note I bought X-Men: First Class for 10 bucks and there were no special features. so lame.
wonderwomanhero 6th-Apr-2013 02:28 am (UTC)
This is why I hate blurays. They get all the special features now which is nagl
deseti_prsten 6th-Apr-2013 01:20 am (UTC)
I'm usually all about British (or other foreign original) over US versions, but the US Shameless is fantastic. It made me hate Emmy less, which I didn't think was possible. But, I get what he's saying. It really is strange to watch two different versions that start out the same. Must be even weirder when you're a part of it.

I have yet to see the latest episode, should do that soon.
antique_faery 6th-Apr-2013 02:10 am (UTC)
It made me hate Emmy less, which I didn't think was possible. Lmao, same!
beaddddddsss 6th-Apr-2013 02:23 am (UTC)

lillylilacs 6th-Apr-2013 01:24 am (UTC)
Typically I prefer/support the original version more, but I actually love the US version more.

evett 6th-Apr-2013 01:26 am (UTC)
I watched the UK version first so IA watching the US one was weird as fuck at first but once they started doing original stories the show got really good.
_storysofar 6th-Apr-2013 01:29 am (UTC)
I like the US version better
lanavis 6th-Apr-2013 01:30 am (UTC)
It feels more realistic than the UK one.
lanavis 6th-Apr-2013 01:30 am (UTC)
Wait. He married Fiona!?
benjersthefish 6th-Apr-2013 01:54 am (UTC)
beaddddddsss 6th-Apr-2013 02:26 am (UTC)
Gworl, yas! This is his wife/UK Fiona, Anne Marie Duff. They met and had the sex scene straight away, which is hilarious.

killetheth 6th-Apr-2013 01:30 am (UTC)
i didn't get past the first episode of the US vers either James.
ch33rylips 6th-Apr-2013 01:39 am (UTC)
I couldn't make it past the first episode of the UK version.
ohmiya_sg 6th-Apr-2013 01:58 am (UTC)
Same. He was the only good part.
insideout 6th-Apr-2013 03:28 pm (UTC)
Same here
coloursofsouls 6th-Apr-2013 01:40 am (UTC)
After the first ep of the US version everything else is completely different from the UK version.

I couldn't get passed the first ep of the Uk 1. Was just to dull and boring.
ohmiya_sg 6th-Apr-2013 01:58 am (UTC)
That's what I figured, so I kind of laughed that he stopped after the pilot. I think Queer as Folk was the same way.
gorlplz 6th-Apr-2013 01:40 am (UTC)
let us appreciate the beauty that is my husband

hellocheerio 6th-Apr-2013 02:02 am (UTC)
Gah he's such perfection in this
plugmebaby 6th-Apr-2013 03:24 am (UTC)
i honestly dont understand why people find him goodlooking
hisjulliet 6th-Apr-2013 04:54 am (UTC)
ikr. he's a charmer, but definitely not a looker. his eyes are pure perfection however
alexlover14 6th-Apr-2013 08:26 am (UTC)
It's more about the charm and the fact that he's hilarious. The Scottish accent helps too.
gorlplz 6th-Apr-2013 09:59 am (UTC)
ch.. what kind of LACK of taste?

get it togetha sis!
wauwy 6th-Apr-2013 02:55 pm (UTC)
Have you seen him in any movies or... anything ever?
wauwy 6th-Apr-2013 02:55 pm (UTC)
I would argue with you, because I know others claim him as their husband, but I will just appreciate your correct taste.
lovelyeli 6th-Apr-2013 01:40 am (UTC)
the US version is miles better tbh..emmy is fantastic

it wont embed but this is the best scene OF ALL TIME
pagesinked 6th-Apr-2013 02:14 am (UTC)
