A blanket call for female writers doesn't make sense to me. Because Marti Noxon is one of the biggest troll-writers around, and her work is fraught with sexist depictions of women and story lines that privilege male leads.

There's also the issue that it's too easy to be able to say, "Oh, look -- we have female writers now who are in the room when we come up with these characters or these ideas (or come up with them themselves) and they didn't say anything, so we can't be sexist."

RTD wasn't a woman, but he understood that writing women meant just writing a person whose name happened to be "Donna" and not "Frank."

Suggesting that only a woman can write women, or write stories relevant or fair to women, is not progressive.
