Penn Badgley (as Jeff Buckley) Performs 'Once I Was' in 'Greetings From Tim Buckley'
Portraying a music legend is no easy task for an actor, and Penn Badgley certain had his work cut out for him when he accepted the role of Jeff Buckley. The actor, best known for his stint on "Gossip Girl," is taking on the challenge in the upcoming film "Greetings From Tim Buckley," and he's doing all his own singing.
The movie tells the story of the younger Buckley's first public performance -- at a tribute concert to his dad, Tim, who died of a drug overdose before Jeff was only 8. While troubled by his father's legacy and his desire to make a name for himself, the 1991 performance was the breakout moment in Jeff's career, thanks in part to his beautiful rendition of "Once I Was."
Now, you can hear the full version performed by Badgley and judge for yourself whether or not the actor does justice to Buckley. For comparison's sake, we've also embedded the bootleg version of the original performance (we'll go ahead and say that Badgley basically nailed it, but feel free to disagree). Check out the videos and catch "Greetings From Tim Buckley" in theaters and on demand starting April 16 from Tribeca Film and Focus World.
