Beyoncé and Madonna come out in support of equal marriage

Beyoncé and Madonna have both come out in support of equal marriage on the first day that the US Supreme Court has taken on two cases challenging same-sex marriage bans.

Posting on their official Facebook pages, both singers made bold statements in favour of marriage equality.

Beyoncé joined thousands in posting a modified Human Rights Campaign logo which went viral yesterday on social media, in support of striking down equal marriage bans.

She wrote: “It’s about TIME!!! #EQUALITY #MarryWhoYouLove”, in the post which over 60,000 people liked on Facebook within the first hour that it was posted.

She accompanied the post with a hand-written note which read: “If you like it you should be able to put a ring on it, #wewillunite4marriageequality”, a reference to her lyric from the song Single Ladies.
