American Eagle Skinny Skinny Jeans Are An April Fool's Joke, Says Source

American Eagle Outfitters, a clothing and accessory retailer that targets 15 to 25 year-old girls and boys, has put out a line of blue jeans so incredibly tight, it has people wondering if the whole thing is a joke—and it turns out, it is.

On Thursday, a representative who did not want to be named revealed to Yahoo! Shine that the jeans are part of an April Fool's joke. When asked for an official statement about the controversial jeans, the rep said, "We're releasing another video closer to April...can you read between the lines?" then requested help with keeping things "under wraps."

The video ad for the jeans features a woman's voice over saying, "You spend so much time working but if it's your passion, it isn't really work…I love coming up with something new." A guy chimes in saying "I like skinny jeans. Sometimes they're not skinny enough." Cut to a woman twirling in a mirror wearing a pair of the jeans which show off every nook and cranny in her lower half, and then a guy skateboarding wearing the equally tight men's version.

According to various news reports, the company had only 1,000 pairs available and offered a "limited edition premium package" of the jeans; but when you click "shop now" a screen pops up with two cans of spray paint offering the product in "one size." When you click on "Add to bag", a pop-up window appears, stating that the Skinny Skinny is sold out, and entering your email addresses will allow you to be notified when the jeans are back in stock. Hmmm….

Reaction to the video has ranged from Tweets such as "Go home, American Eagle. You're drunk" to "If this @AEO spot is a joke, then high five. If it's for real, then reverse high five."

The spoof has ironic timing, given the recent reports of Lululemon issuing a recall for their line of black yoga pants that were way too sheer as a result of a manufacturing glitch.

Clever spoof indeed, American Eagle. Happy (early) April Fool's Day!

How stupid do you have to be to not notice they aren't even wearing real pants lol.

I love tight skinny jeans though.

Loved how some that first page in the related post changed their comments as it dawned on them that it was a joke <3

Oh AE...I worked there all through college and then was a manager there post-college when I couldn't find a job in my career path and I do NOT miss it at all. Retail was the worst...bless all of you who still have to work it

IA, I worked at the GAP for 4 years during my undergrad and I thankfully have never had to go back after graduating.
brandon198403 22nd-Mar-2013 01:01 am (UTC)
same! Although they've asked me to come back to help out and I'm like NOPE, I physically and emotionally can't do it lol

retail really is the worst. i always say everyone should work retail and at a restaurant for a few months at least once in their lives to gain some perspective.
so_chic_doll 22nd-Mar-2013 03:32 am (UTC)
never going back to retail.

i do guest service stuff now & it has it's off moments, but overall, it's so much better.

never again!!! over the course of 6 years, I clocked time at Hollister, Forever 21, Macys, Nordstrom, and Nordys Rack.

I WILL NEVER GO BACK! Praise be that I was finally blessed with a career opportunity.

I worked at a woman's clothing store. A majority of my co-workers were 40+ and they were a nasty group of women. They did more gossiping and backstabbing than the younger women did.
arwens 22nd-Mar-2013 12:52 am (UTC)
those look painted on, idk how people were fooled
saikaro_x 22nd-Mar-2013 12:54 am (UTC)

chuk_is_dazzled 22nd-Mar-2013 12:56 am (UTC)
Lol this seems more like how to NOT do an April's fool joke - 2weeks early and you say youre gonna have another video before April fools.... lol whatever cause it did fool some people
kaijinscendre 22nd-Mar-2013 12:59 am (UTC)
Then they succeeded in creating a video to show to your friends in order to determine which ones are morons.
h0tfuss 22nd-Mar-2013 01:09 am (UTC)
You can buy spray-on latex that peels off when later. It's for kink. idk, I saw the original video and thought it might be like that.
kaijinscendre 22nd-Mar-2013 12:56 am (UTC)
If anyone thought this was real, they are a fucking idiot.
leviicorpus 22nd-Mar-2013 01:00 am (UTC)
Can we make this a fashion post?

I've become obsessed with browsing Pinterest recently, but lawd do the people there have some of the WORST taste in fashion and makeup ever. Worse than Tumblr, even.
courtkneee1 22nd-Mar-2013 01:02 am (UTC)
the 55 y.o. events manager at my work is obsessed with pinterest so that's who I imagine is on there
leviicorpus 22nd-Mar-2013 01:16 am (UTC)
lol probably, they would love chevrons and that faux-preppy shit.
h0tfuss 22nd-Mar-2013 01:10 am (UTC)
Pinterest is full of moms and frumpy boring ladies who are obsessed with weddings.
squishinator 22nd-Mar-2013 01:14 am (UTC)
i love browsing arts and crafts on pinterest.
vivisexion 22nd-Mar-2013 01:29 am (UTC)
i tried to get into pinterest but i couldn't do it b/c the fashion on there was p. bad and i was sick of seeing so many wedding dresses
unique_lilpixie 22nd-Mar-2013 03:14 am (UTC)
I like some of the recipes on there but most of it is my un-engaged friends pinning wedding-related things to their boards as if they have a wedding to even plan.
bellyroomfan 22nd-Mar-2013 01:52 pm (UTC)
ugh, yeah, i had to stop following a ton of people cause they were just posting boring fashion photos and marilyn monroe quotes. it is like tumblr but for people who think they are too mature for tumblr. i only use pinterest for recipes and crafts and i legit still have hundreds of pins. it is so addictive.
williammiller 25th-Mar-2013 05:57 am (UTC)
I had Pinterest for a day (asked someone for an invite code) and never got into it. Mine was hacked and then I closed my account. It was boring to me.
gaga 22nd-Mar-2013 01:04 am (UTC)
way to be like a week off, american eagle
