Smash 2x08 Promo "The Bells and Whistles"

http://youtu.be/Er4_hyuqG80

Didn't see this posted yet, but maybe I'm the only one still watching? The end of last night's ep was kinda...creepy? I don't get Derek's obession with Karen.

Cause I know some people have quit watching but still like to know the major plot points:

*Derek signed on to direct Hit List

*Tom is flopping all over as a director, mainly due to having to start from scratch because Derek had not yet signed the contract to allow Bombshell to use his old choreography

*Jerry got busted for working with that sneak Ellis, and also for not even giving Derek the contract to sign because he wanted him to come back.

*Ivy and JustJack decided they hate the show they are in (Liaisons, not Smash) and so they just decided to go crazy and have fun with the show since it was probably closing immediately.

*Karen finally realized she's not anyone's Marilyn, especially Tom's version, and quit Bombshell to work on Hit List.

*Ivy's show closed, freeing her up to come back to Bombshell as Marilyn.

*Julia was there, mostly just whining about the same old thing (how her old script was better.) But she did get Derek to sign the contract releasing his choreography ideas.

*Derek and Jimmy had a creepy pissing match at the end about who gets to be more obsessed with Karen. Derek won.

fwee_prower 20th-Mar-2013 04:44 pm (UTC)
Ellis is back? WAT
logan_lerman 20th-Mar-2013 04:47 pm (UTC)
no thank god

they just keep mentioning the shady shit he did last season
shannenb 20th-Mar-2013 05:13 pm (UTC)
No, it came out at the beginning of the season that Jerry had been paying him to spy (back when he was working for Eileen) to spy on the show/give him info. All we saw was Jerry talking to Ellis on the phone and writing him a check.

Can someone spoil what happened on this show since the beginning of S2 now that I don't watch it anymore?

Like nearing the end of S1, I found the show to be exhausting to watch

The show was getting ready to go on Broadway, they were going to book a theater and everything, but then Jerry (using the info he got from Ellis)called the cops on Nick (Eileen's mobster boyfriend) and said that Eileen was getting the money for the show from illegal means, so the show was frozen. Nick took the fall and said Eileen didn't know where he was getting the money, so he went to jail and the show got unfrozen but they lost their theater and Eileen didn't have the money to put on the show. Jerry told her he'd pay for it but she had to remove her name as producer.

Karen was all insecure about Ivy, so she suggested to Derek about not renewing Ivy's contract when the show was up and running. Ivy got let go. She got another job in a different show, but it's terrible and she hates it. Sean Hays from Will & Grace plays the star of that show, and he's crazy and off his meds and terrible.

Derek was also supposed to direct a version of The Wiz starring Jennifer Hudson's character on Broadway, but then all these actresses started coming out accusing him of sexual harassment so he got fired from that.

In the midst of all this, everyone realized Julia's book for the show sucks, so they hired this professional hot guy to come in and punch it up. He and Julia fought back and forth and that made her write her best book ever, but Jerry hates it because it won't put asses in the seats, so he demanded they use an old book Ellis gave him and Julia hasn't shut up about it since. She whined more about that than she did about finding out her husband was cheating on her and left her.

Karen went into a bar and met these two guys, one of whom is Jeremy Jordan, and they are writing the next Rent type musical. So she's been helping them out to get their show off the ground and now she is going to star in it. And she kind of has a back and forth flirtation with Jeremy Jordan.

That's the major stuff, anyway. Derek quit Bombshell cause he hates everyone involved, and Karen just quit cause Tom doesn't worship her.

Thanks!

It sounds like a cold mess.

I don't get why they go any episodes without having Ivy sing.

I keep going back to this show even though I know it's not good for me. I'm not interested in any of the characters, the lame, frustrating plots, or the bad acting, but I watch in hopes that the show will finally turn around.
Come on! It feels like the dynamic's been the same since S2E1.

I totally am watching and enjoying this season so much better than the first.

Rachel Ray, is that you in the youtube promo?
la_petite_singe 20th-Mar-2013 05:50 pm (UTC)
Seriously, I so don't get Derek's obsession with Karen; she's beautiful, sure, but she's just...not interesting at all. That "Our Day Will Come" scene last year was freakishly hot, but that's just because they're both attractive, not because it made any damn sense. And I love that we're STILL pretending that Eileen and Julia aren't sure about Ivy as Marilyn. SHE IS PERFECT FOR IT. PERFECT. DEAL WITH IT.

"Ce N'est Pas Ma Faute" was kind of weirdly awesome; if this show embraced camp and humor more often it'd be awesome. And Hit List (I finally remembered the name!) still seems like a moronic emo Rent knockoff to me, but I am totally downloading that "Rewrite" song because that was a good jam.

Also: desperately hoping Derek's "you want some of this?" and offering the terrible coffee to the little kid was an ad-lib. <3

Because Mr. Steven Spielberg deemed it so. There was a big article awhile back about why this show doesn't work and one of them was that Spielberg really wanted McPhee to succeed. He wanted it so much that he was willing to replace Megan Hilty. Also the producer, who has since left, wanted everything to revolve around Karen - she's so smart! She's so beautiful! Every man wants her! Every gal wants to be her friend etc.
williammiller 20th-Mar-2013 10:51 pm (UTC)
Ugh @ Spielberg and his McPhee love. I like her voice but her acting is HORRIBLE. I loled when one of the characters called Karen one of the most promising actresses last night. I was like um, no.
williammiller 24th-Mar-2013 03:08 am (UTC)
You'd think after Ivy saved Eileen and Julia with "They Just Keep Moving the Line" performance, she would have been a shoe-in for Marilyn.
evett 20th-Mar-2013 06:38 pm (UTC)
Derek is the worst
prophecypro 20th-Mar-2013 07:35 pm (UTC)
reminds me I need to catch up on it
tipping4_2 20th-Mar-2013 07:38 pm (UTC)
I want to believe that all the "omg Ivy you're the best part of a meh show" and "you're the breakout star" comments about Liasons are actually meta-references to Megan Hilty + Smash t b h
divaty 20th-Mar-2013 09:15 pm (UTC)
The entire season is meta.
smolderhotter 20th-Mar-2013 09:51 pm (UTC)
i love the song jimmy/karen sang
williammiller 20th-Mar-2013 10:49 pm (UTC)
Thank god Queen Ivy is Marilyn again. Karen's voice suits that other production anyway.
aria_grace 20th-Mar-2013 11:56 pm (UTC)
Did this show get cancelled? I'm reading conflicting info.
icyblugurl 21st-Mar-2013 01:32 am (UTC)
It's getting moved to Saturday, which is a sign that this show is getting the boot.
williammiller 24th-Mar-2013 03:34 am (UTC)
Not officially but it was moved to Saturday's, which usually means NBC is going to burn off the episodes. They're already done filming for Season 2.
vampyric_lycan 2nd-Apr-2013 03:40 am (UTC)
I can't with this show anymore. There was so much promise, though, and I would watch the SHIT out of a legit Marilyn musical.
