Sherlock Episode 3:1 - The Empty Hearse

The title of the new episode of Sherlock has been announced as The Empty Hearse.

Sherlock co-creator and star Mark Gatiss unveiled the name of the new episode on Twitter, along with a photo of the clapperboard from the set of filming.

The clapperboard also bears the name of Jeremy Lovering, the director of the episode.

The premise of the first episode is set to be based on the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story The Adventure Of The Empty House, in which villain Sebastian Moran is introduced.

Gatiss has previously said of the episode: ‘There’s certain things about ‘The Adventure of the Empty House’ which feel set in stone because that’s how Sherlock comes back, but at the same time we feel free to invent and to introduce new stuff to it.’

The BBC1 Twitter account has also teased: ‘Sherlock read-through over, plenty of surprises in store for series three!’

Sherlock fans have reacted with excitement to the news of the new episode title, with one tweeting: ‘Lord help me, I’m hyperventilating right now! I can’t WAIT for new Sherlock.’

Another speculated: ‘The Empty Hearse…. I guess there’s something to do with Sherlock faking his death.’

Yeah, I'm the same way. I'm very selective about who I follow and mostly stay out of the tags, so it allows me to pretend that we're semi-sane.

It's just so much nicer this way. It helps that I don't ship Johnlock, so staying out of the general fray doesn't even mean I have to miss out on art or fic or ~the latest~ gifset.
