Sherlock Episode 3:1 - The Empty Hearse

The title of the new episode of Sherlock has been announced as The Empty Hearse.

Sherlock co-creator and star Mark Gatiss unveiled the name of the new episode on Twitter, along with a photo of the clapperboard from the set of filming.

The clapperboard also bears the name of Jeremy Lovering, the director of the episode.

The premise of the first episode is set to be based on the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story The Adventure Of The Empty House, in which villain Sebastian Moran is introduced.

Gatiss has previously said of the episode: ‘There’s certain things about ‘The Adventure of the Empty House’ which feel set in stone because that’s how Sherlock comes back, but at the same time we feel free to invent and to introduce new stuff to it.’

The BBC1 Twitter account has also teased: ‘Sherlock read-through over, plenty of surprises in store for series three!’

Sherlock fans have reacted with excitement to the news of the new episode title, with one tweeting: ‘Lord help me, I’m hyperventilating right now! I can’t WAIT for new Sherlock.’

Another speculated: ‘The Empty Hearse…. I guess there’s something to do with Sherlock faking his death.’

LOL, Jesus, really? Come on, people, it's like CBS's biggest show rn. And I totally called that Joan was going to win this year before the competition even started. \o/ I know which way the wind is blowin'. Very glad we didn't have a Watson/Watson-off, though; that would have been very annoying.

IKR, it was their Superbowl show and everything!
I also called it :D I liked the idea of Watson vs Watson in theory but it would have been horrible in execution. It was probably for the good of fandom that it was (H/M)olly Hooper instead.

I didn't make much sense to me either (I can't even remember who I ended up voting for). The most logical explanation is that the Sherlock fandom realised that men don't fare well in FMM and decided to band together to get a woman nominated. Or that Joan would crush John, idk.

I know at least a few of them were fake accounts (like, made that same day), so I remain highly suspicious. I did rather enjoy that the entire fandom and hatedom turned on her since last year WHEN WE HAVEN'T EVEN HAD ANY NEW EPISODES SINCE THEM. But that's fandom.
