Fred Armisen!

And...

LeVar Burton!

Both were doing a Q&A at the Sennheiser+Paste Magazine Interactive Studio and Lounge. LeVar was really laid back and spoke about a new Reading Rainbow application for the Ipad. He also spoke about Star Trek and his new show on TNT.

Fred talked about Portlandia and how lucky how felt to be as successful as he has been. He really worked the crowd and at one point went through the crowd to go to the bar and give the bartenders hugs and photos. As he was making his way back to the stage he crossed through where I was standing so I had to move out of his way and he sort of shimmied his way against me to get up there. He's rather lanky and soft-spoken in person. Seemed genuinely nice though.

Also, Amanda Palmer was there and she was being her usual amazing self.

Are there any other ONTDers who are attending sxsw? Have you guys seen any celebs? I also saw Mae Whitman on South Congress.

If you have nothing better to do, my bf's band is playing the Equal Vision Records showcase at House of Blues around 2.

Fun, what's the band/genre of music?
istya Re: SXSW people/austinites15th-Mar-2013 05:15 am (UTC)
They're called Pretty & Nice and they're "indie pop/rock" I guess. They're really fun.

you're fucking kidding me. they toured with kdev recently, right (or was it miniature tigers)? regardless, i saw them and just god
istya Re: SXSW people/austinites15th-Mar-2013 05:16 am (UTC)
It was Mini Tigers, yeah.

Eek, I hope you didn't hate them. :/
wearescientists Re: SXSW people/austinites15th-Mar-2013 05:23 am (UTC)
no! i liked them a lot! enough to ~like~ them on facebook. sadly, i couldn't buy anything (and still can't D:) but they were great, and so was mintig because just how can you not like them. there was a drunk woman on the stage and the lead singer was like "nu-uh drunk lady, get off~"

there was one i didn't like that were on that tour. chain gang? idk i spent one whole song wondering why the lead singer went from a dancing song to a song about brutally murdering someone and i was like "wOW, way to kill the atmosphere"

oh wow, what an episode of csb. i am sorry
istya Re: SXSW people/austinites15th-Mar-2013 05:33 am (UTC)
Haha, I prob shouldn't say this, but yeah, I was not a fan of Chain Gang either!

The Tigers are just the sweetest though, LOOOOVEEEE them and their music.

No I love the csb. It sounds tacky, but since we have to spend a lot of time apart, I like knowing people are at least enjoying their music!

PS I forgot to mention that your username rocks! I love WAS!

LOL! It is totally fine, sis! I also spent most of the set wondering if he had leggings or pants.

YES! THEY ARE ADORABLE! The lead singer reminds me of Jim from Jimmy Eat World hahaha.

Aww, really? I did love them. Do you go on tour with them at all at times?

PS THANKS, I love WAS too! I hope you've seen them live! Keith & Chris are A+++
istya Re: SXSW people/austinites15th-Mar-2013 06:15 am (UTC)
Oh god his pants.

I can def see that. He told me he repeatedly got mistaken for Win Butler from Arcade Fire at Lollapalooza a few years back.

I never really travel with them- sometimes to NYC, but the van is so cramped and I can't really take a lot of time off work...but they might be going to Europe in the fall, and if it ends up happening I'll probably blow some of my savings and tag along because why not.

Girl I have seen WAS so many times (and am impatiently awaiting their new album), they are so great! Keith and Chris crack me up.

Oh god, really? I can see that.

I could imagine! I've been trying to convince someone to let me travel as a documentary photographer without pay (just food tbh) and so far it hasn't worked. I don't think I can deal with a van, though. Shrug.

BUT YES! You should def go to Europe. Take photos and just it'd be grand. A friend of mine in Mr Meeble (with a WAS type of European following) went to Europe a few years ago. His girlfriend played keys for the tour and it was like the cutest thing I ever witnessed.

REALLY?! I am SO jealous tbh. I've seen them once. My 17th birthday in 2007 because they never come to Arizona. God, they are hilarious and I love me some Keith Murray. What's your favorite album of theirs?

I'm pretty sure I have seen them. They're from Boston right.
