I watched the first episode On Demand. I was too distracted by Freddie Highmore's in and out accent at first to notice it was set in present day but the episode was decent.

The first episode was obviously a lot of set up but it had it's moments. I'll definitely tune in for the 2nd episode.

I loved the first episode. I still can't believe Freddie Highmore is older than me, he looks so much younger. But yeah, his accent was popping in and out frequently lol
Vera was amazing, though, and I was a bit disappointed that Max Theriot wasn't in the first episode.

So was I. I kept waiting for Max and he never showed. He looks like he is going to be a major asshole. I hope that if he is, he has some likeability about him, otherwise people are gonna want his character dead or gone and I don't want that. He is one of the main reasons I'm watching it.

I'll watch the pilot but if it doesn't elicit enough of a creepy aura; like anything based on/around Psycho should then I'll probably give it a pass.

But at least I have Hannibal to look forward to.

Well it being set in the present day explains everything I found wrong in the trailers.

Except for the fact it's set in PRESENT DAY.

The hell they do that for. It'd be creepier if it was set in the right time period because, lets be honest here, we see the 40s/50s through rose colored glasses and having a darkness like Norman Bates would have been a great contrast.

But whatever. I'll watch when I can.

I'm so excited for this. I loved the shot through the window sfm.

That said I just went to Netflix to see if I could watch the original Psycho there before Monday, because my DVDs are still boxed up from when I got my floors redone late last year (haven't bought a new DVD stand yet) and I don't want to dig it out, and all they have is the 1998 remake. :|

At least it's only $3 to rent on Amazon & I have an Amazon gift card.

a friend of mine who worked on it said they didn't decide whether it would be set in the past or present until about the 6th week of production and they didn't have the $$$ to reshoot what was dated so it's supposed to bounce in and out of a period piece for the first couple episodes, isn't that weird?

I would think that this is the type of important detail that would be covered and agreed upon prior to the start of shooting. In either case I'll still give this show a shot since I have nothing else to watch on Mondays.

That actually makes so much sense now after watching the first ep. I was confused because it seemed like it couldn't pick a time period. The clothes and sets were dated but they were using new technology. That's really cool your friend go to work on it though, I'm jealous!

he was telling me how they kept a lot of the retro and warped it into a 'nod to the past' but it gets more modern but i think from the way he was talking it's always going to be there.

welp, that's that I guess.
The trailer was pretty crisp, so I thought I would love this show. but watching this.....I guess im gonna dip out.
Norman came off as....mentally retarded (?) and their mother/son relationship is creepy gross/awkward and not in the good, intended way.

To me, he didn't look as if he were into her, like that. He looked as if he was use to her doing that. IDK, I didn't get the vibe that he was liking what he was seeing. I have heard rumblings about them though. Not really looking forward to that at all.

Hmm.. I'll probably watch the first episode & give it a chance. I'm not sure if I'm going to like it. Freddie's accent is distracting now that people pointed it out not to mention he sounds like he has a bit of a speech impairment in some lines because of his in/out accent which is also distracting.

I watched the whole pilot. IDK, I am still on the fence. Anthony Perkins is my husband and I am very biased when it comes to people playing Norman Bates other than him.

I'm kind of obsessed with Max Thieriot at the moment, so I am really waiting to see him on there. Hopefully he will not disappoint. Love him. Max actually tweeted me like two days ago and I kind of had a fangirl moment. lol I blushed a little bit at the tweet he replied to, but hey at least he noticed me.

Vera is great in it and Freddie definitely has the innocent act down, but like I said, it's hard for me to picture someone being Norman Bates, other than Anthony Perkins.
