Noted Homophobic Douchebag Brett Ratner To Receive ♡Ally Award♡ From GLAAD

There was a time not long ago that Brett Ratner would have been an unlikely choice to recieve the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation's Ally Award later this month in New York City.

The director of the Tower Heist and the Rush Hour franchise had resigned under pressure from producing the 2012 Oscars telecast due to the fallout from a gay slur he made during a film screening in Hollywood.

Ratner had been asked whether he rehearses with his actors before shooting a scene and replied, 'Rehearsing is for faggots.'

But since then, he has been working with GLAAD on a 'Come Out for Equality' public service announcement series. It features a diverse group of Hollywood celebrities, athletes, musicians and politicians ‘coming out of the closet’ as supporters of equality.

It will premiere at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City on 16 March - the same ceremony where Anderson Cooper will be presented with an award by Madonna.

'Out of anybody I've ever worked with, Brett has been the most humble and willing to put his money and actions where his mouth is," GLAAD president Herndon Graddick tells The Hollywood Reporter.

'In terms of an ally and what someone can do after an incident that was negative like that, I've never worked with someone who displayed such genuine interest in helping the community,' Graddick added. 'There's no one who deserves this more than Brett does.'

'GLAAD's interest is in bringing allies in to join us in our fight for total equality, and he really did that. I now consider him a friend.'

Sadly a lot of people, even within the LGBT community will bend over backwards to make space for allies and throw their own under the bus to do it. I once got into an argument with one of the writers for AfterElton.com because he published a piece saying that the Lambda Literary Awards had made themselves irrelevant by alienating straight ally authors because they chose to limit nominations for the award to only authors who were LGBT. LGBT people really cannot have a space where their work is recognized and prioritized above straight people without straight cis people crying about it and gay people helping them do it. As if straight cis people didn't already have enough groups willing to hand them awards that rarely do the same for LGBT writers.

Tired of "straight ally" awards. Most of the time, these organizations don't even award actual LGBT celebrities! They even get "straight ally" celebs to host the shows. Why not award actual LGBT people who have made a difference?

You mean I can get an award for being a good person? Well shit, sign me up for one. Although I think GLAAD's being a big fail by giving it to a homophobe.
