After Earth Trailer 2...happens




If you were wondering just how hard sci-fi the new Will Smith action flick After Earth will be, wonder no more.

The new trailer is here, and it looks to be a sci-fi FX spectacle with everything from an epic spaceship crash to some cool set pieces to alien creatures and big tech MacGuffins.

In addition to a ton of action, the latest trailer also sets up the story of the Will and Jaden Smith flick. The father-son duo crash-land on Earth 1,000 years after humanity has abandoned the planet to the wild, and have to fight for survival in search of the ship’s lost beacon. It looks like a nice, personal story packed in a big-budget package.

Much like the upcoming Tom Cruise tentpole Oblivion, it could be a unique sci-fi tale that should make for a great 2013. If they manage to pull it off, it could be stellar.

Here is my prediction: Will Smith's Character dies in the plane crash and his "spirit" guides his son to become the man he should be and also heal their relationship. He'll live and learn a valuable lesson and learn in the end that his father was always dead.

OMG that was my first thought. It's worse than Britney's faux English accent in Scream and Shout.

it's almost sad how much of a joke he's become now among moviegoers, when people used to consider him the shit. has any other director fallen so far? like, we all know that uwe boll sucks, but uwe boll was never that great to begin with.

They did early test screenings where Will died in the first 5 minutes and had to go back and do reshoots.

Not too sure. The early test screening review got HORRIBLE reactions because you see Wills dead lifeless body and the audience knows but Jaden doesn't and he still "communicates" with Will via headset until he finds his dads body and learns he was dead the whole time.

I'm assuming they remove the imagery from early on of his dead body and instead do the reveal at the end that it was his spirit or some shit.

It's M. Night we are talking about lol, his films NEVER make sense

I know its M Night and I know people feel some way about Will and Jayden, but it looks interesting enough to be given a chance. Plus a sci fi film that may not have a familar audience caried over from an adaptation along with 2 PoC leads matters enough to me.

Yeah and how the fact that they're poc is irrelevant in the story and to the characters. I feel like if this does bad hollywood will use it as a excuse to take a step back.

Ugh. I can already hear them saying "this is why we don't put POC in the lead role of big budget Sci-fi films. Let's just give them another POC characters getting together at some big dinner and with everyone getting loud and crazy"

W/e I will go see this. It looks cool. Also like the speech pattern thing, reminds me of how they have various speech patterns in Star Wars like the more recognizable Trans-Atlantic way and etc.
