I actually really love the whole cast, really peeved that it keeps getting overlooked for awards.
The UK one is not even grittier, which Brit or anglophilic fans like to use to attack the US version.
Everything about it is outstanding. Give it a go!
They also defeintely show Frank as more of a fucked up asshole than the UK version.
I would disagree with those saying it's a better show though. The UK version was amazing the first few seasons, and truly well done. The US version... well, there's a reason it doesn't get nominated for awards, despite the phenomenal actors. It can play a little fast and loose with the very heavy topics it throws out there (for example, a teenage girl who was molested by her father is barely addressed as a big deal). If you ever do want to give the UK version another shot, I would suggest watching it from the beginning, because you may have seen later seasons, which are of much lower quality. And it's much easier to see the complex portrait of Frank they drew when you watch it from the start. It was definitely still very crass, but in a far more realistic and human way that the "wouldn't t be funny to become male escorts for some extra cash" way.
There's no way the UK version would have translated properly to the US. We don't have housing estates like the UK. It's a different feel, and definitely more familiar to American audiences. So you may like it. But yes - it can be crass just to be crass. Frank is definitely not a modern day hero on this one, though. But he actually bothers me more here, because the first few seasons of Shameless UK he was a drunk loser, but had his redeemable traits. On the US show, he could not give two shits about his kids. And yet he is still a prominent character.

...the reason it doesn't get nominated for awards is because the awards shows here are all politics. The US is incredible and should no way be looked down upon because it hasn't won awards.
I was a fan of the UK version. But the US version has more heart.
It got so much more fun when Emmy popped in, they loosened up a lot and the other people didn't matter, they might as well not be there.
And damn it, I just pieced together that Steve Howey is married to Sarah Shahi. She's so pretty.
I posted about it when it went live, but I guess by the time the mods got to it, it was over.
it's also really weird to watch with my sister with all the tits and fucking
i'd like to ride jeremy though
shameless.
