Keri Russell cast as lead in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes"

Keri Russell has been cast in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which will reunite her with Felicity co-creator Matt Reeves.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Russell, who stars on FX's freshman spy drama The Americans, will take the lead female role in Fox’s sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which Reeves will direct. Already on board to star are Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Qhile much of the plot has been kept under wraps, the film is set 15 years after the events of the hit 2011 film. It follows Caesar (Serkis), the intelligent ape who is trying to maintain dominance over his kingdom, and the scientists struggling to survive in San Francisco.

Peter Chernin, Dylan Clarke, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa are producing the movie, which is working off a script by Mark Bomback. It's set for release May 23, 2014.

I love her, I really do and The Americans is such a great show.

But I'm still not loving the Planet of the Apes remakes.

I will never understand the love/obsession over Planet of the Apes.

Rise was way better than it should have been.
miriamele 7th-Mar-2013 12:57 am (UTC)
Yeah I was really surprised that I liked it.
thesilverymoon 7th-Mar-2013 01:25 am (UTC)
Agreed. I'm not a huge Planet of the Apes fan so I went in with really low expectations and ended up loving.
I may or may not have cried because of the actions of a certain gorilla....
tucker 7th-Mar-2013 02:04 am (UTC)
I fucking loved it tbh
dacrayzblaze1 7th-Mar-2013 06:30 am (UTC)
I was not about James Franco and Freida Pinto's characters' romance. It seemed so unnecessary.

But now that I know JF has nothing to do with this movie, I may just see it. (The sequel, I mean)
winonaforever 7th-Mar-2013 10:13 am (UTC)
Despite James Franco. Imagine how great it would have been without him?
endingonfire 7th-Mar-2013 12:55 am (UTC)
me either.
samrockwell 7th-Mar-2013 01:21 am (UTC)
i've never really watched the other ones, but i liked rise of the planet of the apes. i just like monkeys though tbh
ty_slilreject 7th-Mar-2013 01:49 am (UTC)
I watched it for my animal law class and it just completely overwhelmed me when we were discussing it. Blegh.

Honestly, speaking as one of the few people who liked all the 1960s film it's a good popcorn flick series. Better by far, in fact, than the novel that started it all, whose most faithful adaptation was that Tim Burton film. Of course as I'm also a fan of the Godzilla series, I can hardly cast aspersions on the stuff other people like with a straight face.
klutzy_girl 7th-Mar-2013 12:32 am (UTC)
Ooh, yay! I loved the first movie and I love her, so I'm pretty excited about this.

Also excited for The Americans tonight!
duchello 7th-Mar-2013 12:32 am (UTC)
I'm so happy she's on my TV and movie screens again! Waitress is one of my favorite movies.
miriamele 7th-Mar-2013 12:57 am (UTC)
One of the most underrated movies ever, tbh. IT's suuuuch a great movie.
karis_azura 7th-Mar-2013 02:43 am (UTC)
One of my favs as well...sooo sad about the director :(
champagnexdream 7th-Mar-2013 12:32 am (UTC)
This is the first thing I ever saw her in. It was on TV the other day and I watched at least 60% of it. No shame.

I loved these movies. I think we literally wore out the VHS of the first one.

chuk_is_dazzled 7th-Mar-2013 01:54 am (UTC)
i watched this on tv some weeks ago, ah memories of watching it on vhs so much during summers
tvisgood 7th-Mar-2013 03:47 am (UTC)
I watched this movie so many times as a kid.
redaodai 7th-Mar-2013 12:33 am (UTC)
I don't think I've seen any of the films (yet I've seen reruns of the TV show). When I was younger, the VHS cover for one of the re-releases of the older movies spoiled the ending so I just didn't care.

Still waiting for the day she lets her natural curly hair roam free again

miakun 7th-Mar-2013 12:35 am (UTC)
I really did enjoy Rise, but I'm not sure they can pull off the same momentum in a sequel.

THAT BEING SAID. I watch every Apes film, so I'll be seeing it.
corcaigh 7th-Mar-2013 12:49 am (UTC)
SAME!

I was really against the 2001 Planet of the Apes movie (I was a 13 year old with some rage) and refused to see it ever... until after I saw Rise. I regret that decision. As someone who even likes Mark Wahlberg, I regret that decision so much. That movie sucked.

I have faith that this new one will be at least somewhat entertaining. Whether it's good or not... I'm not holding my breath, haha.
bloody_hell 7th-Mar-2013 12:35 am (UTC)
I actually liked the last one and I also like Keri so this could be good

Yup, same here! Remember this gem?

ariesangel404 7th-Mar-2013 02:53 am (UTC)
LOVED this movie lol my cousin and I would watch it whenever it was on Lifetime. It was fun to watch this and then see him a few hours later on 7th Heaven being a pastor.
714daze 7th-Mar-2013 06:42 am (UTC)
I always though the 7th Heaven dad was hot LOL
iheartfamke 7th-Mar-2013 12:44 am (UTC)
SO happy she's getting work. I started watching the Americans because of her but I just couldn't get into it.
klutzy_girl 7th-Mar-2013 12:47 am (UTC)
It took me two episodes to get into the show, but I love it so much now.
