Tomb Raider’s Film Reboot Will Mirror the New Game, Studio Says



Tomb Raider's reboot as a video game seems to have worked out well, so Crystal Dynamics is comfortable talking about their reboot plans for the film, too.

Speaking to Variety, Darrell Gallagher said his studio is working with GK Films, producers of "Rango" and "The Departed." Gallagher's remarks stress that whatever the next Tomb Raider film is, it'll be consistent with the tone of the game releasing today. "We didn't want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old ‘Tomb Raider' films," he said. "They are working from this new take that we've given them."

A rebooted "Tomb Raider" movie, departing from the voluptuous Angelina Jolie portrayal of Lara Croft to a steelier, yet vulnerable adventurer, has been talked about before. ComingSoon.net discussed the project with Graham King (he runs GK Films) back in 2011.

Who else could do it? Please no one say Gemma Arterton or Keira Knightly. Maybe Lena Headey? She's the only one bad ass enough.

i love lena headey but lara croft is supposed to be like 19 and all weepy about killing a deer in this incarnation

Yeah, I mean for it to be in line with the game, Lara would need to be early twenties. A woman being late twenties/early thirties is so much more credible. Lena would then be perfect. But yeah, it will end up being some Gemma Arterton type :(

She's good at playing beautiful, sweet and vulnerable but I haven't seen her prove herself as anything else. I genuinely can't think of any other English actresses (of the correct age range)

i don't think she's that talented and imo her looks are definitely overrated but i don't think she'd be a bad choice, just a safe one.

i hope they go with an unknown.

WHICH OKAY NOT SAYING A LOT. But I thought she did being a badass and vulnerable well, and I say that as someone who hates this need to make badass female characters "vulnerable" and "attractive" so they're actually women instead of "guys with breasts."

Loved Lena on TSCC, but I can't with her eyebrow anymore. I mean, not the EYEBROW specifically, but she has this acting tic with her face. Head tilt, eyebrow, sneer throughout TSCC, GOT, and Dredd and weighs about 100lbs and I just cannot take her seriously anymore.

I actually think the VA for the new Tomb Raider looks a lot like Lara herself lol. But I've never seen any of her stuff so idk her acting ability
