Georgina Chapman of Marchesa, a brand favored on Hollywood's red carpets, is collaborating with JCPenney with a line called Pearl. Named for designer Georgia Chapman's daughter's middle name, the range will focus on special occasion dresses with the same feel as her high-end pieces, but at extraordinarily lower prices. Everything costs between $50 (for a shell) and $250 (for an organza gown). And, lest you think that Chapman's famously fancy fabrics and attention to detail will be lost on mass-produced products, her interview with WWD promises "corsetry," beautiful laces" and "tulle."
"I have really enjoyed this challenge," she said. "It’s amazing what Penney’s can achieve at a price point."
For those who need further convincing, there'll also be a richly decorated Pearl boutique within each of the 500-plus participating stores. Done up with gleaming white fixtures, silk-upholstered armchairs and pearl-draped chandeliers, they'll make a worthy home for the fancy party dresses. Just not as worthy as your own closet, of course.

Duro Olowu's collaboration has finally arrived at JCPenney. The Nigerian-born, London-based designer is internationally regarded for his fearless use of prints, and this collection brings all the bright plaids, checks, geometric patterns, animal and tribal prints, florals, and paisleys. But no need to be scared of all that color and shapes. The designer said of his collection, "It's one thing to mix patterns, but you sort of have to have a flair for it so that it's harmonious. It's all trial and error except that we've done the work."
Dresses are generally $40 to $60, tops are $25 to $40, and jewelry is $10 to $25. Bags are $30 to $50, the two pairs of shoes are $50, and you can get umbrellas, belts, luggage, and notebooks for $10 to $90. Bonus score: some of the prints for accessories and bags were commissioned from Olowu's old friend Iris Apfel.
Duro Olowu is a favorite of Michelle Obama. See the items here.

Slightly OT: Beside JC Penneys, ASOS, and the usual hipsters brands, are there good online stores with decent prizes and design for dresses? I have 5 weddings to attend... Cheers!

dammit JCP, stop making me want to go into your store. i was already weakening because of their collaboration with joe fresh
The others I love. Me want.
I'd really like to see more environmentally conscious manufacturing at JCP. The Mango line has made strides with that.
(unless you are keri washington who just says fuck it)
Duro's looks very nice though
case in point
/sorry for big pix :S
